Yep, the main event really lived up to expectation, and Porter made those betting odds look a bit silly as well. Spence got pulled into Porter's orbit early in the fight and had to dog it out with him for the full 12 rounds. If it wasn't for an 11th round KD, Porter may have won the fight, especially with the judges splitting the decision after 12.
Spence certainly knows he's been in a real scrap now, but he found the punch that he needed in the 11th and that's what great fighters manage to do.
A bit less impressed with the undercard decision against Akhmedov v Barrios. And PBC's announcement that Spence will fight Danny Garcia in his next title defense..
Well then, GGG (remember him?) back in action this weekend. Overshadowed and on the wrong end of controversial decisions to golden-bollocks Mex cash-cow Canelo Alvarez, he is back in the frame against unheralded (but good) challenger and fellow-Ukrainian Derevyanchenko. Saturday night at Madison Square Gardens. DAZN promotion.
https://www.badlefthook.com/2019/10/...zn-boxing-newsThe vacant IBF middleweight title is on the line Saturday, which is a story in and of itself. Golovkin (39-1-1, 35 KO) won this title back in Oct. 2015, when he headlined an HBO pay-per-view card and took the strap from David Lemieux. He defended it against Kell Brook, Daniel Jacobs, and Canelo Alvarez, but was then stripped by the IBF for not fighting Derevyanchenko, his mandatory challenger, in the spring of 2018, when Canelo pulled out late of a scheduled rematch with Golovkin, which was going to feature the IBF belt at stake once again.
^You are correct. Anyway, apparently GGG looking very good in training, but he is 37yo now. Derevyanchenko only 1 loss, a split decision to other top 160lb-er Daniel Jacobs. Probably a good fight while it lasts.
I'm picking a GGG KO win inside 6 rounds and sending a statement to the people overlooking him.
Betting odds:
As part of DAZN’s unprecedented fall schedule, the GGG vs. Derevyanchenko fight can provide a profit for sports bettors if they know where to look. According to the boxing odds at MyBookie, Golovkin is a -450 favorite (bet $450 to win $100), while Derevyanchenko is a +350 underdog (bet $100 to win $350). The value in this fight isn’t on the moneyline or necessarily picking the winner. Conventional wisdom and high probability is that Golovkin is going to win this fight. While there isn’t value in betting the win at -450, there are certain bets where you can pick up a few bucks.
While the offerings are limited, there are bets that provide value. Here are three of them.
Today In: Business
1. Gennady Golovkin By Decision or Technical Decision +138 (bet $100 to win $138). Anytime you feel a specific fighter is going to win and you look at the line value attached to that victory, anytime you can get underdog odds, you can’t pass it up. In this case, Golovkin to win by KO TKO or DQ is +105, so while both method of victories are underdogs, the later being almost even money, what we’re counting on here is Derevyanchenko’s ability to whether Golovkin’s storm and take this fight to the scorecards.
2. Fight to go the distance -138 (bet $138 to win $100). Since we’re already betting that Golovkin is going to win a decision, we might as well double down on the fight going the distance. Consistent with what I expressed above regarding the fight ending in a knockout, the fight not to go the distance is at +100. It doesn’t get anymore even money than that. We’re going with the fight going the distance.

Well that turned out to be one hell of a fight. Close on the cards too. GGG showing his age.
^Was very impressed with Derevyanchenko. Despite a KD in round 1 and a nasty cut in round 2, he came back into the fight superbly, and was hurting GGG to the body especially. Less impressed with Golovkin, a combination of slowing down with age and changing trainers (now with Jonathan Banks), saw him not getting punches off and no defense or head movement. Great fight though. The fans booing at the end ought to stick to watching "Rocky" films, imo.
GGG needs to get back behind his jab and with Abel Sanchez as trainer, or retire if he he can't get the trilogy with Canelo.

He is going to be okay, but looks like Spence is a better boxer than driver.

^Wow.
Video of the crash on this page: https://www.badlefthook.com/2019/10/...eo-boxing-newsUnified welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr. has sustained serious injuries following an early morning car accident in Dallas, TX. Spence was reportedly driving at a high rate of speed around 3 a.m. when his Ferrari went over a median and flipped several times. Spence, whom police say was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle during the single car crash. Spence was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries and placed in the intensive care unit, though he is expected to survive.
A photo of Spence’s totaled sportscar tells most of the story.
Doesn't look that high speed, but with no seatbelt you're a sock in a washing machine.
Great match-up at Light Heavyweight this weekend (ESPN+, 10:00 pm ET). Arguably, 175lb's top #1 and #2 fight each other in a unification battle.
Both these guys are tremendous boxers / punchers. Gvozdyk the slight favourite, but Beterbiev has stopped every one of his opponents so far.
Source: https://www.boxingnews24.com/2019/10...ver-beterbiev/WBC light heavyweight champion Oleksandr Gvozdyk is a small favorite over IBF champ Artur Beterbiev in their light heavyweight unification fight this Friday night on Top Rank on ESPN and ESPN Deportes at the Liacouras Center, in Philadelphia. The start time for the broadcast on ESPN and ESPN Deportes is at 10:00 p.m., ET.
Gvozdyk is a -125 favorite and Beterbiev is at +105. The fight is considered to be a 50-50 affair. Beterbiev, 34, beat Gvozdyk a decade ago in 2009 when the two were amateurs. The loss seems to still bother Gvozdyk, and he feels he’s improved enough since then to avenge his loss to Beterbiev.
This fight will have huge ramifications for the light heavyweight division, because the winner could then face WBA belt holder Dmitry Bivol. There’s also the winner of the November 2 fight between WBO 175-lb champion Sergey Kovalev and Saul Canelo Alvarez that could take on the Beterbiev-Gvozdyk winner.
Patrick Day dies aged 27 after suffering brain injury in Conwell fight
American boxer Patrick Day died on Wednesday in Chicago as a result of the traumatic brain injury he suffered during his fight on Saturday, where he was knocked out by Charles Conwell in the 10th round.
Day, 27, had been in a coma for four days following his defeat and, despite having emergency brain surgery at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, doctors were unable to save the junior middleweight.
"Patrick Day passed away today, October 16, 2019, succumbing to the traumatic brain injury he suffered in his fight this past Saturday, October 12, at the Wintrust Arena in Chicago, IL," his promoter Lou DiBella said in a statement.
"He was surrounded by his family, close friends and members of his boxing team, including his mentor, friend and trainer Joe Higgins."
"On behalf of Patrick's family, team, and those closest to him, we are grateful for the prayers, expressions of support and outpouring of love for Pat that have been so obvious since his injury."
Day was rushed to the hospital on a stretcher after Conwell landed a flurry of punches that left him motionless on the canvas.
Before turning professional, Day was a highly decorated amateur who won two nationals titles.
He turned pro in 2013 and became a world-rated super welterweight contender, capturing the WBC Continental Americas championship in 2017 and the IBF Intercontinental championship in 2019. In June he was rated in the top-10 by both the WBC and IBF.
Day's death comes after 23-year-old Argentine super lightweight Hugo Santillan died in July from injuries suffered in the ring and 28-year-old Russian Maxim Dadashev passed away two day earlier from brain injuries during his fight.
"It becomes very difficult to explain away or justify the dangers of boxing at a time like this," DiBella said.
"This is not a time where edicts or pronouncements are appropriate, or the answers are readily available. It is, however, a time for a call to action.
"While we don't have the answers, we certainly know many of the questions, have the means to answer them, and have the opportunity to respond responsibly and accordingly and make boxing safer for all who participate."

^Saw the fight on the Usyk undercard last Sunday. The KO was pretty sickening, tbh. Day was out before the back of his head hit the canvas hard.. The fight seemed a mismatch, and with the advantage of hindsight he should have been not allowed to continue after an earlier knockdown.
Top Light Welterweight unification this weekend from London O2 Arena.
https://www.badlefthook.com/2019/10/...vs-josh-taylor
Again, twice in one week boxing's top #1 and #2 fighters meet each other for the IBF and WBA titles. This time at Light Welter, again both guys unbeaten so far, and Taylor will enjoying the home advantage with a huge raucous crowd at the O2. Prograis super-confident though, and is an excellent boxer-puncher so far untroubled by anyone at 135lbs, but will be the slightly smaller guy v natural 140lb-er Taylor. Could go either way, and expecting this to be a really good match.

^Well, you mugs missed a sure-fire FOTY last weekend. Prograis and Taylor put on an absolutely great fight.
It was one for the purists: two athletes at the peak of their powers attempting to solve each other’s puzzles while simultaneously keeping their own a mystery. Void of fabricated narrative, embellished to squeeze a couple more pay-per-view buys over the line, Taylor and Prograis produced a 36-minute advert for our sport in one of its most significant hours of need.
Elusive feints, burnished upper body movements and a fiery, pin-point jab from the away fighter were countered by thudding bodywork, intelligent distance and an eye for roughhousing from the Scot, as two unbeaten fighters opened their toolboxes for the world to see. The multitude of trinkets and accolades up for grabs soon became a materialistic sub-plot, as the lucky thousands in attendance became intoxicated by an absorbing contest of brain and brawn.
As the final bell rang inside the giant tent of the arena, both men embraced out of exhaustion and respect. Together they had put everything on the line for our entertainment, suffering for their art. A picture surfaced the morning after with the pair posing for a photo with matching bruised and bloodied right eyes; they’ll forever look back on Saturday night as the night they both found their perfect dance partner.
This weekend we have Canelo v Kovalev. Happy days for boxing fans.
I watched Chisora vs Price the other night. Will be on torrents or You Tube
Don't see it, then again it is rather B-list boxing.
