Some people dispute that Ali is the greatest fight of all time. I think he's one of the greatest men in the world. Conscious objector (No Vietnamese ever called me a nigger), stripped of he's titles and won them back. Came home from the Olympics and was refused service in a restaurant and ended up throwing his medal in the river.
The Louisville lip, surely a God among men.

^^ I thought he took his "banter" too far at times. The way he abused Joe Frazier was way beyond a normal level of sportsmanship and was borderline abuse for the sake of abuse. I wish Smokin' Joe had won the thriller in Manilla personally.
I can't knock him. He was a ticket seller. He fought a lot of his fights outside the ring. He called Liston a big ugly bear for nearly 10 months. Liston was a proper bad boy. He wanted to shoot Ali.
He took the piss out of Max Schmeling for months before they fought. At the weigh he whispered in Schmelings ear and said "we are gonna make a lot of money"
Can you imagine what it must have been like to climb in the ring with this fella. No thanks.
Great little thread rebbu, kudos mate.
This was the best of their three meetings. Look up the word "warrior" in the dic, and there should be a picture of Arturo Gatti.
Best battle in recent times. Maybe of all time. Certainly round 10 is up there with boxing's best.
Two of the best British fights I watched in the eighties were, Colin Jones v Kirkland Liang.
I remember when Jones' nose was nearly hanging off...Unbelievable fights.
BTW. rebbu, great thread!
Fight starts at about 7 mins in.
One of my favorites. Round nine is scary.
EDIT* Just looked through the thread and it's been posted all ready by kmart.
