You do know that Woodward was never the England coach don't you?

He was the Manager, Robinson was the coach.

As for the XV selected, yeah good side.

many positions could be debated, we all select sides based on people that excited ones self....

Leonard would not be my TH, his greatest years were at LH and he only switched to TH later on when there was a need. Once Vickery came along he was superfluous there.

but all in all a rather good side.

    Thank fvck for that.

He looks like Smeg's younger brother and would battle to tear a wet tissue.

In fairness Woodward was a pretty good player, British Lion centre, sorta Guscott before Guscott.

Before it was sanitised, you mean?

All the Ocker pricks in the RFU seem to be similarly tryng to fuck Union up in the same way.

I cannot verify whether it is Ocker pricks that are changing the rules but it seems Rugby Union is as healthy a sport as never before with bumper crowds watching mostly very entertaining games.

The scrum rule change in League I agree was a joke but the rule changes in Union I believe has improved the game.

Anyway I will name my best Aussie side and invite you Poms, Welsh, South Africans and others to nominate their best sides and if you have a spare moment.

My best ever Australian side past and present players is and in batting order:

    1. Victor Trumper
    2. Mathew Hayden
    3. Sir Donald Bradman (Captain)
    4. Ricky Ponting or Steve Waugh
    5. Greg Chappel in spite of his underarm decision.
    6. Keith Miller
    7. Adam Gilchrist
    8. Shane Warne
    9. Bob Massie
    10. Dennis Lillie
    11. Glenn McGrath
12th man. Paul Sheehan as he was the best fieldsman Australia ever had.
Very hard choice .... but I would go with Ponting.

Just came across these interesting stats:

Steve Waugh's career started in in the 1985-86 season and lasted 18 years till 2003-04. He played with greats like his twin brother Mark Waugh, Damien Martyn, Glenn McGrath , Shane Warne, D Boon, A Border, J Langer, M Hayden etc.

On the other hand Ricky Ponting's career also lasted 18 years starting from 1995 till calling it a day in 2013. He also played with some big names such as M. Waugh, G McGrath, S Warne, M Hayden , B Lee, MJ Clarke, M Taylor, I Healy , M Waugh and Steve Waugh himself.

    CAREER STATS:

    Steve Waugh
    Matches: 168
    Innings: 260
    Runs: 10,927
    Highest: 200
    Average: 51
    SR: 48.6
    Fifties: 50
    Hundreds: 32

    Ricky Ponting
    Matches: 168
    Innings: 287
    Runs: 13,378
    Highest: 257
    Average: 51.85
    SR: 58.72
    Fifties: 62
    Hundreds: 41

From the career stats both batsmen played the same number of years (18) and the same amount of matches (168). Ponting has scored more runs than S. Waugh but also played 27 more innings.
Ponting had more fifties and more hundreds than S.Waugh and also scored at a faster rate. Who was more crucial to their team? Both played with some big players and scored runs around them, but who won more matches for the team?

    MATCHES WON

    Steve Waugh:

Out of his 168 matches , 86 were victories but his contribution to the wins was a major one. His 6460 runs out of 10,927 runs were in matches won which is a staggering 59% of contribution and batting average of 69.4. Moreover 25 out of the total 32 hundreds were in victories which is 78%. WOW

    Ricky Ponting:

Again out of 168 matches in which Ponting played, Australia won 108 (More than Waugh). If we talk about runs scored 9157 runs out of 13,378 came in win at an average of 59.4 , this amounted to an amazing 68.4% of his career runs. In terms of hundreds 30 out of his total 41 were in matches won which is 73%.
