take on the pikes peak hill climb where he smashes the record by 90 seconds
he is in a peugeot 208, have to admit the race looked better when it was gravel,
but it has been tarred from 2011 i think

With modern tech for graphics and in car broadcast, they could probably do something to improve it and make it seem a contest.

The glory days of the Lancia integrale and the Audi quattro fully blown monsters were a sight and sound to behold. The group B was for me the golden years of rallying with the above and the likes of the Escort RS 200 and even the lowly metro 6R4 showing the rest of Europe that the British could win.
I have spent many a night back in Blighty watching the RAC rally at various sites around the UK freezing my nuts off waiting for cars to come screaming past.

I was fortunate(?) enough to be the Flying Finish flag waver for the RAC Lombard Rally in 1983 during the Stage through Inverness. An experience I shall never forget, perched on the outside of a right-hander with a 200ft drop. A couple of cars went past on their roof and I had to watch a rock picked up from one of the Audi's fly towards me and catch me squarely on the jaw...that hurt, but better than jumping down the 200ft drop.

I stopped watching it when they banned the group B cars. Just like I am slowly going off F one because of the constant rule tinkering and attempts to slow the cars down and reduce engine size and capacity. They are even trying to make it green. I used to go to at least two races a year till this year. Now I don't bother and even watching it on TV has lost its appeal. When they reduce the engines to V sixes that will be it for me I'm afraid.
Missing the sound of a V ten racing down the straight at seventeen and a half thousand RPM spoils it a bit.

Every year the rules are tinkered and every year the cars go faster with smaller power plants.
All that tinkering eventually ends up in mercs, then mazdas.

I have to disagree my friend. It is killing the sport not making it any better at all. They are killing the racing spirit of F one. Most fans I know don't want small capacity engines that are fuel efficient they want huge gas guzzling monsters and wheel to wheel racing. With only the one tyre manufacturer now a lot of races boils down to who can manage their tyre wear the best and not who can drive round the track the fastest
Thats not what I call racing

^ F1 will be using hybrid engines before too long.

For me F1 is long dead already, although I still watch it at Spa.
Le-Mans 24 still has its appeal.
