Gareth Bale cleaned up on most of the awards this season and Robin Van Persie was an integral part of Manchester United so I was thinking about the significance of being left-footed in football. Evra and Cole are predominantly left-footed but it's usually the goal-scorers that one remembers.
I realise in cricket that sometimes it's an advantage to have a mixture of right- and left-handed bowlers and batters, and I expect the same might might be true about being left-handed in such sports as tennis, squash, and badminton. What's the advantage in football?
Ryan Gigg is another who springs to mind. Any thoughts TD readers, and any memories of other left-footed players in the past?
