Big boots to fill..... love him or hate him you cannot deny his achievements.

Best manager of all time in my book.

Just confirmed on BBC.

Did not see that coming (at least not so soon) and now the big question is of course - who will replace him?

Had the biggest spending allowance of all time I reckon not to mention the brilliant Man United youth scheme to pick from.

I liken Ferguson to Clive Woodward who just happened to be lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time with champion players around him.

That would be my guess. I predicted a long time ago that when he finally retired it would be the start of a dodgy patch for United. Such a major upheaval, I can't see it not causing problems for a while. I fucking hope so anyhow.

A bit more to it than that I reckon LT. I'm not a huge fan of his, but I think it takes something pretty special to do what he's done. Credit where credit's due for me. As much as it pains me to say it.

The brilliant youth system that he himself set up and put into place. As for the money it was United generated money and not "given" by a dodgy Russian oligarch or by a gulf Arab.

Yeah he was just lucky and in the right place....49 times!

It's already going badly and has been for a number of years despite success. The right players haven't been brought in at the right time and some of his tactics and team choices have been baffling to say the least. So although it could always get much worse with the right financial backing it could be a very good thing.

How many managers have been so successful for so long? Started way before the big big bucks took over sport. Hope he is happy this time next year.

I reckon they'll hijack Mourinho.

There has to be an element of guaranteeing future success, both short and long term, particularly with United now being listed on the NYSE, and their being top of the heap in terms of a hugely talented squad. For that reason, I think it will be Jose rather than Moyes.

Jose has always had quite a reverential attitude towards SAF, and has never been critical of him or of United (almost as if he knew that one day he might end up at Old Trafford). In spite of the speculation surrounding him and a return to Chelsea, nobody knows the difficulties of working for Abramovich better than him.

It's a good thing in that it had to happen eventually, and the sooner you start a tricky period the sooner you can get out the other side.

As a situation it's nothing like anything I can ever remember happening in the British game before, so I would be very surprised if it didn't have some side effects.

What did I just say!! ENOUGH of that talk if you please. He's on his way home to West London.

Fergy and Jose are actually very good friends, but I think United will see him as the wrong kind of man for that job.

They want someone in there who is in it for the long haul, just like Moyes was at Everton. Jose is a get in, make himself look like a hero, and move on kind a guy. I don't think (hope) that's what United are looking for.

People tend to judge SAF solely by his (remarkable) achievements at Manchester United. Lets not forget his time at Aberdeen, 3 titles, 1 european trophy, disrupting the Glasgow dominance and playing superb football with limited resources. Comparisons with Bob Paisley overlook this, Paisley was a great manager but he inherited a great club set up.
As a United fan I worry about appointing Moyes, 1 FA Cup runner up is not the kind of pedigree a club like United need. I can't see past Mourinho, titles in several countries and a great Champions League record.
I was a regular at Old Trafford under Sexton and Atkinson. I was at SAFs first home game.
Interesting times ahead for sure.

What Moyes has done on his budget is pretty fucking good. Yes it's a big step up and it the wheels could fall off big time. I just can't see an ego the size of Jose at United myself.

Angry Scotsman to be released into community

BRITAIN faces the prospect of yet another unemployed, angry Scottish person at large.



Alexander Ferguson, a Glaswegian, will be released during the summer, with experts warning of a devastating effect on tourism, the economy and everything else.

Professor Henry Brubaker, from the Institute for Studies, said: “The one thing that puts people off visiting Britain is the very real prospect of being accosted in the street by an inexplicably furious Scotsman.

I believe the Man United Youth training scheme was set up in the 1890's with Bobby Charlton really establishing it more professionally in the 1980's with players such as David Beckham, Paul Scholes and the Neville Brothers benefiting.

I think the next few managers will be lucky to last a couple of seaons each.
