I think the gay rights activists should pretty much mind their own business.

Talking to friends who are gay. I assume you're too insecure about your sexuality to be able to do that.

I have always thought that silly thing they do before games when they dance around their handbags is totally gay. They must all be massive raging homos.

It just looks so silly and gay when a pale white man does a darkie dance and pretends to be one of them.

Ahhh, there's nothing quite like a bit of archaic, colonial-era, bigotry and ignorance to underscore a lack of IQ.

IQ don't mean shit bro. I'm street-smart. I'm from the hood, straight outta Compton and all that.

TBH I think the haka is great, I just wanted to take the piss a little, but it does look stupid when a white guy pokes his tongue out and pretends he's some kind of ancient spear chucking warrior from the other side of the world.

I agree with the former, the Haka - when performed by Polynesians, has cultural significance.

Surely, the colonial era bigotry is on the part of the pakehas who perform it.

Maui is probably turning in his canoe as they chant it.

Anyway, no matter. It's just a game.

It is, by this point, part of New Zealand culture. If you took your point to it's logical conclusion then it wouldn't even apply to all Polynesians, only Maori.

And whose to say who is Pakeha and who isn't anyways. Take a look at the Maori All Blacks next time they line up.

I am so over the Haka. I wouldn't object but for the fact that non polynesians are forced under the rules to face it and make no response. And have no right of reply in kind. Australia wanted to have the crowd sing Maltilda afterwards at home games and was canned. Any team who "disrespects" it by ignoring it or acting up gets fined.
Time for an end or failing that, parity.
Poms for example, should be able to stick up two fingers and then en mass give a browneye, as is their culturally historic response, but can they? Nooooo, haka and the ab too special....

Really, and what rules are those?

That's a loaded question by the way: I've seen similar comments to yours before yet not once has anyone ever been able to point out the actual rules. Actually, on another forum, the best that Google could come up with was a link back to the forum and the thread where it was stated there were these rules.

Yes, it's been assimilated. But I don't think it looks as good when done by Caucasians. Still its a harmless bit of spectacle.

I saw a couple of badass rugby matches in Fiji in the summer. Didn't see any pre-game rituals at all. Perhaps not a Fijian thing.

Presumably in NZ it's only done in internationals? I mean, two local teams wouldn't do it to each other pre-match, would they?

New Zealand only started doing in in New Zealand in 1987.

Until then it was just a touring thing.

It is fun to watch, but it just gets monotonous, first game of a tour would be ok.
In a tournament, it's just boring to see it so many times.
