"This movie is a love story set in a Brave New World-type near-future where cities are heavily controlled and only accessible through checkpoints. People cannot travel unless they have "papeles" (papers in Spanish; words and sentences in many languages, especially Spanish, French, and Chinese are mixed with English in this new world), a special travel permit issued by the totalitarian government, the "Sphinx". Outside these cities, the desert has taken over and shanty towns are jammed with non-citizens - people without IDs forced to live primitive lives. William Geld (Tim Robbins) is a family man who works as a government investigator. When he is sent to Shanghai to solve a case of fake IDs, he meets a woman named Maria Gonzales (Samantha Morton). Although he realizes she is behind the forgeries, he cannot help but fall completely in love with her. He hides her crime and they have a wild, passionate affair that can only last as long as his visa: twenty-four hours. Back home, William is..."

Just binged The Capture, bit obvious what happened, then unravels leaving you somewhere near that blurry line between the virtues and pure evil. Packaged as fiction today, but certain to be tomorrow's scary reality; if not non-fiction.

    Looking forward to S2.

The entertainment drought that has been the last 6 months' mediocre TV is definitely over with The Boys S02 following hot on the heels of The Queen's Gambit

S01 was top stuff but S02 is epic zone.

The last episode is V-compound superpowered - you keep thinking it is the end and then another crazy scene unfolds.

Hope they can keep it up for a 3rd season and the wheels don't come off.

Until next time a message from uncle Billy Butcher...always remember Don't be a c*nt!

And I still have the Mandalorian, The Crown and Fargo locked and loaded.

Season 3 was a little uneven and not so racy after the epic 1st 2 seasons but it seems to be back in the saddle.

Gorgeously rich cinema and nuanced story telling.

The bird who plays Diana has got it pitch perfect.

The only TV show where I never skip FF>> through the title sequence. It would be treason.

    The Servant (TV series, 2019)

A creepy thriller exec produced by M Night Shyamalamadingdong.

Episode 1 has a sufficient hook to keep going, but I'm up to six and tbh it's dying on its feet. Better be a reveal.

"Black Narcissus", a three part mini series from the BBC/FX. A group of nuns face trials and tribulations converting a palace into a convent in the Himalayas. Stars a few notables, including Diana Rigg (in her last role before she died earlier this year) and Jim Broadbent.

    Trailer:

The Flight Attendant (TV, 2020) might have legs.

A hard partying stewardess (the fit bird out of The Big Bang Theory) wakes up in a bit of a bind with no memories of the night before (in Bangkok of all places!).

    7/10 for episode 1.

    Boss Level (2020, Hulu)

This movie has been bouncing around with no-one wanting to touch it with a shitty stick, but it finally landed on Hulu for a 2021 release. Well that went out of the window.

At first glance I thought it was a low budget piece of crap but it turns out it cost $45 million and was directed by the guy that did Narc and The Grey.

    Think an ultraviolent Groundhog Day.

Actually better than I thought it would be, the plot is a bit on the shallow side, but the stunts and effects and a tongue stuck firmly in the directorial cheek make it an engaging, if not enthralling romp if you don't try and take it seriously.

Mel Gibson and Michelle Yeoh put in minor appearances.

    7/10

    Let Him Go (2020).

If you remember Kevin Costner's "Revenge", then this is even duller.

A couple's son dies, their daughter-in-law remarries and disappears with the grandson.

They go after the trumpanzee family that have him.

Some minor skirmishes ensue occasionally, but not enough to rescue this Thanksgiving Turkey.

    3/10

    Tenet:

It is an amazing movie and I give it a 9/10.

But the comments about the sound are valid, in places you have to rewind and listen over, in the end I just stuck the subs on and looked at them when it was drowned out. I guess Chris Nolan won't be buying me a pint.

For any Brits who can remember this 'scandal' - Hugh Grant is outstanding as Jeremy Thorpe.

Only 1 episode left and mostly top stuff, a couple of slow ones.

I thought I recognised the boat Diana and the boys are splashing around in in episode 9 tonight

Well shiver me timbers if it isn't my very own royal yacht HMS Kondor 2000...

Interesting news that WB are going to release all their movies on streaming the same as cinemas. Of course the cinema chains are up in arms about it.
