If you're stuck for something to watch, the new Perry Mason is not at all like the Raymond Burr outings.

Gritty and dark, set in '30's LA.

Very good, an eight out of ten.

6/8 broadcast already and available on torrents.

Interesting documentary about the grip of the mafia on New York throughout the 70s and 80s. Trump is in there a few times too.
So So, not as good as expected, but worth putting on.

    I May Destroy You

HBO/BBC series based on the theme of sexual exploitation. As with most of the stuff HBO produces, it's quality....got some interesting twists in the usual narratives.

Movie Hits on TrueVision sometimes has some real gems. Yesterday I watched 'Molly's Game' starring Jessica Chastain and Idris Elba written and directed by Aaron Sorkin. Never heard of this movie so it was quite a treat. Outstanding script and great acting by Chastain and Elba. The true story of a world class freestyle skier who after a career ending injury goes on to be prosecuted by the FBI for running high stakes poker games.

    Anybody watched DARK?

German show on Netflix. It's another time travelling tale but done with much more finesse than the usual JJ Amrams shtick.

Ploughed through Season 1 in 2 days. Got Season 2 and 3 lined up now.

    Stephen King fans:

I've just watched the first episode of Castle Rock and I'm liking it already.

    2 seasons available.

A psychological-horror series set in the Stephen King multiverse, Castle Rock combines the mythological scale and intimate character storytelling of King's best-loved works, weaving an epic saga of darkness and light, played out on a few square miles of Maine woodland. The fictional Maine town of Castle Rock has figured prominently in King's literary career: Cujo, The Dark Half and Needful Things, as well as novella The Body and numerous short stories such as Rita Hayworth and The Shawshank Redemption are either set there or contain references to Castle Rock. Castle Rock is an original suspense/thriller - a first-of-its-kind reimagining that explores the themes and worlds uniting the entire King canon, while brushing up against some of his most iconic and beloved stories.

    Exec. Producer - J.J. Abrams

    IMDB 7.6
Castle Rock (TV Series 2018– ) - IMDb

Thoroughly deserved new record for Chernobyl.

If you haven't got round to watching it yet, you should.

BAFTA TV Awards 2020: Jared Harris hails 'amazing' wins as Chernobyl breaks BAFTA record. The critically-acclaimed mini-series picked up a total of nine awards. With wins for Leading Actor and Best Mini-Series, Chernobyl has now made BAFTA history – becoming the most-awarded TV show (in a single year) ever.

Just started watching Che Part One (of two), can't comment on the credibility of Hollywood's version of the revolution against the Batista regime, or even how it pans out, but excellent background delving into the conditions, methods, beliefs and principles before another good idea turned into a power grab by charismatic thieves and murderers.

Benicio Del Toro well cast as Che.

Let's see if Hollywood has the US as a villain or the good guy.

Target Number One (released in the USA as "Most Wanted" ) is a 2020 crime film based on a true story and starring Josh Hartnett as Canadian investigative journalist Victor Malarek, investigating the arrest in Thailand of drug addict Daniel Léger (Antoine Olivier Pilon).

Despite its low-budget flaws, the film is well worth a watch and better than the IMDB rating.

The 2020 Perry Mason COULD have been a good series, had it not been permeated throughout with religious lunacy.

Likewise, Che COULD have been ok, but much of it is in Spanish without English sustitles.

I suppose a big reason for that is that it sticks to the source material of Erlc Stanley Gardner, and of pulp fiction in general.

Lots of lunacy there, religious and otherwise.

It may come off in the books, as you get sucked into that world. On screen it seems to have sometimes not aged that well.

We've grown to expect even our fictional crime to be less stylised amd more 'realistic'.

90 years ago the imagination ran wilder at things that went bump in the night.

Yes I found part 2 of Che a struggle, no problem with subtitles, for me they can shorten a movie by as much as half after the fast forwards, but it started and ended weak and I couldn't wait for him to be offed.

Del Toro is a great actor though.

    Finished them both.

    IMHO.

First illustrated Che's strengths and ability to be a team player. Which were a part of the success.

Second illustrates the requirement of a strong team, which appeared to have been missing and thus the failure.

    Both well produced, thanks.

I was surprised at his UNGA access.

Having watched 6/8 I feel I might as well give it a chance as to whether or not it is critical to the denouement.

    S01E07 is up now.

    The Long Way Up.

The follow up to Long Way round (Fantastic) and The Long Way Down (Pretty crap), first 3 episodes out on Sept 18th, then the rest out weekly on Apple TV.

The new series will follow Ewan and Charley as they ride Harley-Davidson LiveWire electric motorcycles through Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador and up through Colombia, Central America and Mexico. Also joining them are their longtime collaborators, directors David Alexanian and Russ Malkin, following them in their electric Rivian trucks. The whole journey covers 13,000 miles over 100 days through 16 border crossings and 13 countries.

I'm impressed with the quality of recent Russian sci-fi, particularly the large scale CGI.

I just finished Castle Rock Season 2 where the plot follows a younger bipolar Annie Wilkes (Misery) and her daughter. Lizzy Caplan played the part of Annie cockadoodie brilliantly, Mister!
