More than decent picture and a fantastic film.
There something that I can't get through my head about that movie. The cameras never left their sides in a movie that played for 1hr 59mins and yet the time frame from collecting their orders and delivery was way much longer. So..........? Is it just me?

It's called editing and a narrative.

Unless of course you dropped a tab and tripped out.

    It's dramatic license.

Yes, you'd probably have to be a squaddie to struggle with getting it through your head.

^^ That's what made the film so seamless.

An example of a time-switch would have been when he met the French girl and baby in the dead of the night and left a short time after. even though the time now was just before dawn.

The actors subtly gave timeframes. The girl asked him to stay because. "it will be morning soon and the soldiers will see you"

Sam Mendes is seriously not recognised widely enough.

How many truly great movies is that now?

Not to mention his stage and tv work.

Enough to be put up there with the greats imo.

    Possibly a movie worth revisiting.

    Have just started watching:

'The Witcher' -- one of the best games ever but still not sold on the series yet (three episodes in) as it hasn't really grabbed me. Will stick with it though, Henry Cavill is pretty good; and

'Barry' -- fucking superb, Henry Winkler is brilliant and Bill Hader is even better.

"Dark Waters". Movie about the Dupont corporation in the US poisoning every fukker in the world with their Teflon product. Centering on the legal battle against the production plant in W. Virginia that killed quite a lot of it's workers and surrounding habitat / livestock. Bit overdone and mawkish, in true Hollywood style, Mark Ruffalo plays the lawyer in this movie.

Prefer the documentary of this story, tbh. "The Devil We Know". There is a review on the Documentary thread. The Devil We Know

Yes, too slow to generate any drama I thought.

Reviews I read were decidedly lukewarm.

Just watched it, and not even McKellen and Mirren can rescue this from its utterly risible plot.

You think it's going to be predictable but it surprises you by being predictable and then completely ridiculous.

    Hip-Hop Evolution s04 on Netflix.

E03 (Virginia Beach and The Neptunes) and E04 (Fiddy Cent and NYC) are the best.

Watched it last night. Mirren and McKellen propelled the film along very well, I thought. But even these 2 heavyweights can't save the daft plot-twist ending.
Shame really. Was enjoying the movie up until then.

    ^ looked good.

Unfortunately it's 10% VN war, 90% old blokes in America talking about injustices of the medals handed out.

If it was the other way round however.

I watched 'American Hustle' last night and it had the same failing as Uncut Gems imo. It descending into silly, shouty bickering.

The difference was that before that there was 90 minutes of excellent film making. Uncut Gems just goes straight to the shouty bickering.

Yes, not a blood and guts spectacular, but enough to remind all of the real sacrifices of ordinary "grunts".

My opinion, is it illustrates the gradual transformation of the doubting, uninterested, "There's nothing in this for me", investigator of a certain generation, into a person who realises how previous generations were treated, that actually did have solid morals to assist them in finding and exposing the truth.

"You don't have to call me, "Sir".
    "Yes I do".
    "Why?"
    "You earned it, Sir".

"Earlier on you said, "There's nothing in this for you". Camera pans out to include some of the many duly proud and thankful for his efforts.

A refreshing remembrance for some, including me. Let's see how it's box office numbers perform.

Arab gangsters in Berlin - finally found series 2 with subs.
S01 was good - a slightly different spin on the inner city family gangster, cocaine trope (or tripe)

Good review on IMDb and I'll download it now thanks.

There is European talent base that has been putting together quality true crime serial drama with like 6-10 episodes a season. THey come out sporadically and the US producer see them for the competiation they are, so the releases are hard to find, but worth it when you do. This reminds me of the Italian contemporary mob series Gomorrha and some less gritty cop based stuff like Witness and Marcela. The point is, like this show, they are well done, and well worth watching for US audiences who have been getting spoon fed crap on cable TV and a dare say the dinosaur that is "network tv'. If you like true crime, ganster family drama, give this a try.
