There's a ton of chinky money going into Hollywood movies this days. It's how Travolta and Cage keep employed.

OK, just watched the opening scene from 6 Underground - that was a damn impressive start to a film! Mixed-genre in a very good way.

Well it was on in Chiang Mai six months ago, so it might fit your definition of 'new', I guess.

You're still on the lookout for that 'new' series about two blokes who start cooking up meth, aren't you?

I agree with your reservations about De Niro. Other than that, superb script, fantastic film editing and notable acting by Pesci and Pacino. Certainly not poor remake of anything by any stretch of the imagination. I give it 8/10.

Just giving this series a bump. I've now finished watching the 1st series and all 8 episodes were very good. Now looking forward to the rest of the series.

Movies nowadays tend to be quick fire action, because producers know that young people have no depth or attention span.
The Irishman was unusually long and didn't suck up to the lowest common denominator. For that, we must be grateful. It is difficult to convey depth in 1 hour and 20 minutes.

it has nothing to do with Casino, it was a boring balade of old mafia guys, no matter how accurate, it wasn't entertaining in any way

not sure what Scorcese was trying to accomplish with that crap? tired of making movies I guess,

6 Underground - great start, some really good stuff, but the ending just fluffed away, imho. Well worth a watch though 7.5/10 But, why wouldn't they fit this song into the movie???

(Teenage Bettyboo had the right horn for Kelli Ali/Dayton!!!)

Watched Departed again on Netflix. It's pretty good - 8/10.

season finale of 'the watchmen' is available....i plan to watch it this afternoon.

i don't know if anyone else on here is watching this show, but it's far and away the most bewildering show i've seen in a while....and i'm using bewildering in a positive sense. i think you'll know what i'm referring to if you watch the show.

    The Departed?

With DiCaprio, Jack Nicholson and Matt Damon?

Brilliant movie. Probably in around my Top 5.

I might give it 8.5 on a good day; I liked it much better than The Irishman, but not as much as Casino.

That and Wolf of Wall Street are two solid reasons for DiCaprio probably being my favorite modern actor.

Jaysus... I'd give the hour or so I was able to actually tolerate a begrudging 0.9/10 based only on the presence of Ryan Reynolds.

^ I don't like RR much, but the movie was mostly entertaining with some funny lines and links to other movies, baby...

^^ Yeah, he is good. I also like Shutters Island a lot.
