What I don't like is how Hollywood films are starting this trend of slipping superfluous Chinese locations / characters into films in an obvious marketing exercise. Though those are usually pretty shite films anyways I suppose but still, it's a bit on the nose.

There's a ton of chinky money going into Hollywood movies this days. It's how Travolta and Cage keep employed.

I agree with your reservations about De Niro. Other than that, superb script, fantastic film editing and notable acting by Pesci and Pacino. Certainly not poor remake of anything by any stretch of the imagination. I give it 8/10.

I've just started watching a Romanian series called 'Umbre' and I really enjoyed the first episode. I didn't think a Romanian series would keep me entertained but it did. I'd give it an 8/10 based on the first episode I watched. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4269716/

Just giving this series a bump. I've now finished watching the 1st series and all 8 episodes were very good. Now looking forward to the rest of the series.

Movies nowadays tend to be quick fire action, because producers know that young people have no depth or attention span.
The Irishman was unusually long and didn't suck up to the lowest common denominator. For that, we must be grateful. It is difficult to convey depth in 1 hour and 20 minutes.

it has nothing to do with Casino, it was a boring balade of old mafia guys, no matter how accurate, it wasn't entertaining in any way

6 Underground - great start, some really good stuff, but the ending just fluffed away, imho. Well worth a watch though 7.5/10 But, why wouldn't they fit this song into the movie???

i don't know if anyone else on here is watching this show, but it's far and away the most bewildering show i've seen in a while....and i'm using bewildering in a positive sense. i think you'll know what i'm referring to if you watch the show.
