watched 'once upon a time in hollywood' this weekend, and i'm not really sure what i think about it at this point. it wasn't what i was expecting, but that's not to say it was bad....just, well, unexpected. i more or less felt the same way right after watching 'the hateful 8". there's a lot going on and it takes time to process. i'll watch it again in the next month or so.

one thing is for sure.....tarantino definitely has a foot fetish.

De Niro's portrayal was supposed to be of a low-key character who was affected more by events and powerful people and swept along by circumstance than a someone who 'called the shots', which is more what he was in Casino (where the character of Ace had a MUCH higher opinion of himself and his view of his own power and influence, though he turned out to be fooling himself- in The Irishman, there wasn't so much of that- Frank knew what he was, and ultimately hated himself- that wasn't true of Ace, who still saw himself as having value even after getting knocked off his perch).

In that sense, I saw Frank as believable. I didn't need a big dramatic scene with his daughter- it would have been completely out of character- he lost her, he knew why he lost her, and made feeble attempts at reconciliation that had no real chance of succeeding, as she was never going to get from him what she wanted. The funeral scene where she wouldn't even look at him once was enough to tell the story. He was a basically cold, unemotional person- they exist in real life- I've known them- it wasn't a stretch to accept De Niro's performance.

As I said, we watched the movie from different perspectives- I wasn't looking for or expecting 'Casino 2'.

That's all I've got to say on it.
Much in agreement. Watched the film in two sittings. Only criticism of DeNiro is the part where as a supposedly younger guy, he "beat up" some shopkeeper, and should have got a stunt double in to do the scene because it looked totally unconvincing and not a bit lame..
Otherwise, thought it was a very good movie.

Must say I'm more than a bit disappointed with the latest stuff I was looking forward to.

Once upon a time in Hollywood. Turned it off half was through.

The Irishman. Wish I turned it off half way through.

Godfather of Harlem. Done after watching 4 episodes.

If Ford V Ferrari ends up being kak I'm plugging out the TV.

Well, he doesn't recommend sucking ladyboy cock, so that's a plus point.

Try Jack Ryan, Season 1 and Season 2

Mr. Robot is quite nice, but might be too sophisticated for you, a lot of real tech stuff that Harry wouldn't understand

also the new season of the "Line of Duty", an awesome British show

Did you miss him throwing (in the loosest possible terms) the guns in the river scenes?

    DeNiro was struggling big time.

Have not seen it yet but any foot fetish movie is getting fast tracked in my torrent folder.

I remember some character gossip in the script of Pulp Fiction about Mia Wallace getting a foot massage from somebody. Will have to watch PF again to remember the details.

    AD Astra....

Had potential but another big budget flop because it just dribbled away to a pointless ending.

    5/10

watched this movie this morning, and thought it was pretty good. they were obviously trying to make more than just a space movie and it hits on some deeper themes (existentialism, grief/loss, isolation). a bit heavy handed in parts, but there are a few action scenes to keep things moving.

    warning for numpty....

proceed with caution.....the main character has considerable daddy issues.

I thought it good. Not a film but a 3 part in depth investigation. 'Exposed The Case of Keli Lane'

    Trauma Center (2019)

It's a decidedly average bad guys after girlie witness thriller, but I couldn't stop watching it because Bruce Willis is in it and I'm pretty sure he was either pissed or stoned off his box in every scene.

Well Mrs. Wallace does have nice feet but they're not worth falling four floors.

The Irishman needs forensic dissection before it can be fully appreciated. I watched it all the way through once. Spent the next week consuming it in 30min bite-sized chunks. Then watched the whole thing again. At the conclusion of this process I am able to award it a strong 9/10.

I think the reason that I've obviously been a bit weird with this is the sheer lack of other television to steal here in the UK. Does anyone who uses the TalkTalk service know of a torrent site other than RAR or whatever the fuck it's called?
