    'Bad Times At El Royale'

Started off as the kind of movie Tarantino used to make.

Became the kind of movie Tarantino makes.

    First half 8/10

    Second half 4/10

"Shameless" returns mid-January. It returns absent several key players, most notably Fiona. Will be interesting to see if they can keep it going. Frank is great, but Fiona is a huge loss.

"True Detective" returns for a 3rd season, also in January. As I recall, SEA1 was great and SEA2 sucked. We shall see if they recover....

Little Murders (1971) ....black comedy....along the lines of MASH....good watch

Elliot Gould (who also co-produced the film) plays Alfred Chamberlain -- a one time successful photographer who is now down on his luck because he began to eliminate people from his photographs. He also suffers from an inability to feel or to be passionate about anything. But then Alfred meets Patsy Newqvist (Marcia Rodd), who takes it upon herself to mold Alfred into "a strong, vital, self-assured man, that I can protect and take care of." As their relationship develops and Patsy takes Alfred to meet her parents, they suddenly bang up against the brick wall of urban violence and insensitivity. In this world of senseless killings and madness, Alfred realizes that the only way to get back into the world is to become as insane as everyone else.

^Just tried it. Only lasted a few minutes. That was an EXTREMELY obnoxious, irritating lady. I got frustrated because I couldn't strangle her to shut her up.

Just watched 'The Cooler' (a flick from 2003 that popped up in YIFY this week) starring William H. Macy, Maria Bello, and Alec Baldwin- it's a small, quirky movie about a guy (Macy) whose luck is so bad that he's used by a casino boss as someone who can 'cool' winning streaks simply by his proximity. Baldwin received an Oscar nomination for it. Recommended.

There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

Sounds like the obnoxiousness was deliberate...but they did it a bit too well.

Glad you guys enjoyed it. All the leads were really good- Paul Sorvino in a small role was excellent as well. It was one of those movies that made me wonder how I missed seeing over the last 15 years.

^A great show that, like many, went on for longer than it should have.
