Must say that one thing about limewire was the ability to preview our download, the ability to play what you have downloaded so far is a nice feature. You could watch 3 episodes while waiting for the others.

    200 up by the way.

No my upload is capped at 20KByte/sec , which is 80% of 256KBits/sec.
Each upload slot is getting 5KByte/sec in average.
The remaining is used for protocol overhead, browsing, email..

No, you are still in the same single swarm, and it is still one torrent.
A problem with running multiple torrents is that only one of them has high priority at a certain time, the others are basically just idling, moving slowly. Clients switch this state of priority between the torrents but there are many penalties for this , housekeeping overhead is one of them, a lot of open connection which consumes communication buffers in your PC and NAT translation tables in your router is another.

Yes, leechers in the old traditional meaning as in cheating or non-contributing nodes.
    Shouldn't I do that ?
Fokk them, until they start to share properly..

How to find out which ones to keep and which ones to kick is not very difficult.
My first descision is wether I should kick any at all. Are there more nodes available to substitute the ones I kick ?
Then I sort the nodes by connection time, look at how much I have uploaded to them and how much I have got in return. For the ones with bad ratio I check if they have had a chance to upload to me (do they have more than me ?) Those with megabytes up and only tenth of kilobytes down will go quick..
Sorting out the bad apples takes a few minutes each time , and I usually do a quick check every 1 to 2 hours to pick out a few more.

Still though, the biggest gain in speed is the one torrent at a time principle.
Kickbanning bad nodes is prolly not more than 20% speed gain normally.

Torrent clients does not use any knowledge from the past in their algoritms, there is no such info available.Their descisions are taken and based on real-time data, what is happening now.. My upload reps is therefore of course also my reps right now, at this time, and I get my reward for it immediately. Not on the next torrent I'm running..

^ ah ok, that's good if the "rep" is live only

so I allocated 5kb/sec of my upload stream to 4 slots with my speed being declared @ 256Kb downstream (not sure if this is info is broadcasted though to other clients)

I do see some improvment at 15kb/sec download now instead of the usual 3kb/sec but again, I had that same speed before randomly so not sure if the new allocation has anything to do with it. I might try kicking out the poor leechers though if that can improve my speed by 4kb/sec

What about getting two files simultaneously from the same tracker, lom? Is that also a bad idea, or does your reasoning only apply when you use several different trackers?

Doesn't matter if they are from the same or a different tracker, they are still consuming your resources. (buffers, NAT tables, bandwidth)

The most I am running here is one torrent in work and one seeding.
When over in Sweden, where I have a big fat pipe, I never run more than 3 + 2.
Over there, I rarely kick bad nodes. Since they have to leech from the swarm anyway, it is better that they leech from a high capacity node.
That will free up possibilities for other nodes to share with me and others instead of feeding a leecher.

You can do this with many torrents as well. VLC works good for partially downloaded videos in this respect.

No, seriously - don't know what's going on. Haven't changed any configurations or anything like that. I'm now at an avg. of 93.5kb/s and it's hit as high as 107kb/s.

Mind, I could quite happily live with this 'problem'

    It's a Manc accent innit.

You have no sense of taste.
I know plenty of families like that lot as I'm sure anyone from the cities of the great british Isles does.

The welcome back at the pub from the French "tour" was funny though, but definitely not for a sophisticated international audience

Well, apparently setting up Encryption to go around ISP traffic shapers seems to give me a boost.

    Downloaded BSG Episode 12 (400MB) in less than 2 hours @ 90kb/sec
