Nature doc Animal on Netflix is decent. Although no Attenborough, I mean he has to die at some point I guess.

Saw that last night. Certainly not as good as the James Bond flick but it was watchable. I would watch Dwane Johnson do anything, though.

    I’ll be watching Animal today.

You folks got any favorite old black&white movies from the 40's and 50's? Two of mine are "Casablanca" and "From Here To Eternity". Thoughts?

anything bogart: Treasure of the Sierra Madre, African Queen (not black and white). I like Angels with Dirty Faces (Cagney), Night of the Hunter (Mitchum), captains Courageous (Tracy), 12 Angry men

    or these

    Two absolute classics. Then
    there is Stagecoach,
    Citizen Cain....
Of course none of these have car chases, explosions, gay sex or proper representation and quotas of minorities ...they will surely be banned soon...

Good movies - embarrassingly out of touch comment.

Another vote for ‘Night of the Hunter’. I watched ‘Key Largo’ again last night, and the interplay between Bogart, Bacall and Edward G. is still priceless.

    High Society.

Just an entertaining jape from beginning to end, with Satchmo to boot.

Oh and for the darker, Bad Day at Black Rock. Stellar cast and they all lived up to it.

    A young Lee Marvin too.

I wouldn't go that high but it was quite funny most of the time.

Foundation - been sticking to it as it is visually compelling, but story wise you get the overwhelming feeling that they've bitten off far more than they can chew.

I just finished : The Chestnut Man.
A figurine made of chestnuts is found at the scene of a grisly murder; from this creepy clue, two detectives hunt for a killer linked to a politician's missing child.

Invasion is turning out to be watchable sci-fi. Bump that up to an 8/10.

Gonna give that a watch tonight. It sounds like something Jo Nesbø, the Norwegian writer, would be involved in.

In fact, I've just Googled and it and it says it was based on a Danish writer's novel, who was responsible for adapting one of Nesbø's books for the screen.

Rake! Surprised that turned up here. I loved it- but it helps that I was kinda part of that Sydney scene when I was a broker there in the late 80's. The decade of the long lunch.
The lead character is an amalgam of 2-3 legal personalities of the time, one of whom I knew well. And indeed, Sydney was quite a corrupt place. Wheels within wheels.
The first two series are great, then it gets into fantasia- a bit over the top. I would say the first two series are well worth a look, especially if you are partial to a bit of Australiana. It actually is not all that far from the truth, albeit obviously a bit caricatured.
