    Mank

another one that isn't going to be for everyone, but IMO a great piece of filmmaking.

    American Horror on netflix!
8 seasons and every episode is akin to a macabre film.

it's ok, i guess....primarily for the old bangkok scenes.

but as has been mentioned, the nonlinear narrative is annoying and i can't imagine i'll make it through six more.
Tried to watch some of it yesterday, lasted about 1.3 episodes before finally giving up in total frustration. The continuous bouncing around between 3 different periods of time, B grade actors, and C grade cinematography all add up to make it impossible to get interested in. 0/10

IF YOU HAVE YOUNGER KIDS ...

    The Croods: A New Age

My 6 yo Boys like The Croods (1)

They've been to a few movies in the cinema and they squirmed like no tomorrow.

But they watched The Croods: A New Age no problems.

Well scripted, enough laughs for the grown-ups, samples quite a few other movies, in the same sort of style as the Shrek franchise did.

I enjoyed it and would watch it again with the Boys when it comes out on DVD.

"News of the World". No, not the former UK Sunday newspaper. Tom Hanks stars in this post Civil War western, who finds himself taking care of a young orphaned German girl. Decent movie, as you'd expect from Hanks.

Another Tom Hanks. "Greyhound" (2020) IMDB 7.0. WW2 naval action. Quite good. Non-stop action.

    ^Thanks PAG.

True story; Hanks wrote the script, too (his first).

Then the pandemic hit so Apple bought it.

"American Utopia". Spike Lee directs this show of David Byrne and 11 other musicians in a performance that is more theatre than concert. The music and choreography are excellent. If you're a fan of David Byrne, you will enjoy this. I would recommend allowing subtitles which include the music lyrics.

I saw this post yesterday and thought 'cool, there's a movie I should watch'.

Seeing it again now today I remember that I've actually already seen it -- not sure if that's more an indictment on my crappy memory or the film.

    Cool, cheers, massive Byrne fan!

He is by a lot of accounts a massive asshole however.

I found it a bit boring, for a WWII movie, but with a good musical score.

But which reminds me, wasn't there a German series of Das Boot made?

    Edit: Yes, 2 seasons.

Anyone find a 1080p torrent for Season 1?

I watched the first couple of episodes.

The effort to expand the story was not successful imo.

Think it was mentioned here a year or two ago.

    Red Sparrow - 2018

overall it was not a bad spy thriller - not for people who are easily confused as understanding who is going on requires concentration and inference because it is not spelled out plainly

even at 2+ hours it was unable to go in depth on a few of the plot lines

Just finished "Imformer " on Netflix.

A gripping story about undercover police and their Imformants.
Local lad Paddy Considine plays the lead role .
Some very unexpected twists and turns at the end.
Dont usually rate this highly 9/10.

Over the last few days I've just finished all five series of 'Lime of Duty' on Netflix and thought they were all excellent.

The first series goes back to the early 2000s and I don't know how I've missed this before. I guess most people will be familiar with it... drama about the police anti-corruption unit AC-12 who investigate bent coppers.

If anyone knows of anything similar I'd be very appreciative.
