Brilliant, but a bit hard to review. It's part dark comedy (very dark), part film noir, part homage to 70's style 'sexploitation' flicks, and with more than a nod to Reservoir Dogs & the Coen brothers thrown in for good measure. Interested?
'Plot'- a trailer trash family decide to have their mother/ ex-wife killed for the insurance money (not much), a cop part timing as a hitman ('Killer Joe') is hired to do the job- and needless to say, things get more complicated from there. I'll not spoil your fun further.
The acting is great, and very well cast- who ever knew Matthew McConaughey could act? (fans take note- you've never seen him in a role like this before). The family is as dysfunctional as it gets, except maybe for cute, innocent little Dottie (or is she?). The film is unremittingly sleazy, often violent, plenty of casual nudity, and absolutely no cliched Hollywood style 'moral message'- as one reviewer put it, the film revels in it's own sleaze.
If you like movies like Fargo, Reservoir Dogs, No Country for Old Men I reckon you'll like this movie too. If you're a traditional Matt McConaughey fan, you probably won't. If you're a feminist, you'll probably hate it. And if you're a fan of 70's style 'shag pile' pudenda, make a homage to see this movie- the opening scene alone will leave you smiling. :) and p'ssst- you'll never look at a fried chicken leg the same way again. :mid:
Sabs summation- Brilliant, 9/10. Not your normal fare though- certainly not for everyone. It's a movie I will watch again, more than once- and that's unusual.

Police Story 2013 - Jackie Chan's latest, f**king excellent. It's not a Jackie Chan slapstick stuntfest but a deadly series thriller showing a side of Chan you don't get in any of his early or Hollywood films. Nothing to do with the other Police Story films, there's of course a few fights, some MMA moves and for an actor pushing 60 this year he puts a most action stars to shame.
