we'll agree to differ on this one

it was certainly not a mind blowing movie and is fairly instantly forgettable but was more than decent enough to make my top ten of the year

as for 'her'..i couldn't agree with you more
i found it turgid by the time i managed to get through it

it's on any number of film critic's top 10 list...number 1 on quite a few

i'm missing something there..same as i was with 'the tree of life'

Well, as I said it did have some good points. pheonix and whoever was the os were good.

So I could see the pair of them getting nominated, and maybe even original screenplay.

but overall, as best picture? i agree - that's just bamboozling.

When I read that Phoenix was in a new film I was intrigued. When I saw Spike Jonze was at the helm I was very interested.

Then I read that it was about a man who fell in love with a computerised voice and.....

    Fucks sake.

    excellent point.

dwarf throwing was a very brave change in the directorial pattern.

American Hustle stank of someone trying to make a Scorcese style movie and failing miserably.

The ending was also a blatant ripoff of "The Sting" which annoyed me.

i put it on last night.

managed about 15 minutes before i had to turn it off.

Black Mirror...season 2....episode "Be Right Back" was what they were probably aiming for.

I enjoyed Wolf of Wall Street. It had me laughing out loud from the start. Very good film (imo of course).

What did everyone think of Pain and Gain? I think that had a similar style not as good as WoWS but it reminded me of Goodfellas / Casino in the way it was made.

I enjoyed it. It's not exactly high brow or even middle brow admittedly.

I read the details of the case a year or so before the film came out - maybe that's why I liked it. Although, I like anything with Marky Mark in it to be honest. Dem abs.

Can't remember the end of Wolf Of Wall Street.. and don't think I'll watch again to find out, same same American Hustle, good films to watch until something really good comes out.

Watched 'Filth' last night, really fokking good, forgot all about the story from the book so it played out well, think that bloke who was in Shameless did a pretty good impersonation of Ewan McGrrregor.

    7.5/10
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!"

Oblivion - Tom (Batshit crazy) Cruise.

Another dystopia where mankind retreats to space after a devastating alien war.
Cruise remains on earth to service resource drones and discovers a dirty secret.
Nice twist but overall, a bit overacted and lengthy.

    Escape Plan - Stalone, Arnie.

Die hard Arnie and Sly fans will like this. Offers little for anyone else.
They have taken the Jailbreak section of Face Off and turned it into a whole movie.

Now You See Me - Woody Harrilson, Morgan Freeman, the guy who played the Hulk

Bunch of Magicians go around stealing stuff.
Tries very hard to be a "clever" movie in the vein of Usual Suspects, doesn't quite make it and requires an effort to suspend disbelief, but entertaining in it's way.

Filth was brilliant, quite different from the book and he took a trip to Hamburg instead of Amsterdam. McAvoy played the part well and Jamie Bell was good too.

Escape plan was good but need to rewatch the ending as nodded off in a hungover mess.

Shaolin Soccer was on the box the other day, it was hilarious even though it was in Korean and had no subs.

    Lang may yer lum reek...

that's not always a guide to quality though...see 'the walking dead' etc

i've watched the first 3 episodes of 'helix' mainly because it's produced by ronald d moore of battlestar galactica fame
not sue what i think of it yet...will give it a few more episodes

i got Russia on 4 Wheels last night.

2 part road-trip done by the BBC. very bland...one lad goes in search of the "old" Russia in a Soviet banger and the bird goes off looking for "new" Russia in an armoured car.
