BTJunkie is one of the best sites i've found for finding torrents
Here are two things to consider:
1. You may be on the cheapest type of package, which means they are likely to be capping torrent downloads at least some parts of the day.
2. The file may be on a public tracker which means there are plenty of interfering leechers placed there by the anti piracy organisations hired by the media industry to protect their interests. These clients send false data that makes the torrent less efficient, because the false data has to be downloaded to your client and checked before it can be discarded.
To test if 2. is the problem, start by downloading and installing the program PeerGuardian, which will block many IP addresses known to belong to anti piracy organisations.
1 can only be solved by paying more to get a more efficient Internet connection with no capping and fewer people sharing the same line as you.
If you are at work or in an apartment building network, it is possible that torrents are throttled locally too. You should make sure you are active/connectable and have forwarded ports (or that UPnP is working properly if that is what you are using).
^ good info.
I use µtorrent and the speeds went to maximum 2100hrs tues - thurs so my settings are obviously OK. I have Peerguardian but find it hard to understand. Doesn't µtorrent itself filter out bad IP's, if so why use PG2 as well, it can only slow the whole process down surely.
Definitely the ISP messing about as those same torrents rocketed down .
I have ipfilter.enable true in the GUI, but I don't have an ipfilter.dat file anywhere.
Double negatives screw me up.
Help with PG appreiated.
It was indeed a sad day when Demonoid went offline. I don't expect to see it back. :(

Does anyone have any info on how to get bittorent working on TOT Ipstar? Pissing me off a little that i cannot download anything since i moved from Bangkok.
I'll have a stab at it myself when i get back to Korat, but there's maybe someone here who can help save my time a little.
Dont they block P2P traffic on IPStar?
Possibly, which would be why i was having difficulties. :(
Lovin Spoonful I would be happy to share...

Probably been mentioned but Board Message is a great source of documentaries (BBC, nat geographic etc etc) about everything - also has emule links. From that site I found Movies, Series, Docs, etc. which has direct download links (rapidshare etc) of documentaries for those with traffic limits. And also WGBH Forum Network | Free Online Lectures which has lots of podcasts, lectures etc All these sites are for 'intellectual' stuff, not movies, music etc.
^ Cheers for those links UK. Been looking for something like these for ages. Green on its way.
If you're into science and nature or virtually any other documentary or series, tell family and friends you're emigrating then shut the door and take the phone off the hook.;)
anyone got some good torrent sites for electronic music?
^ The Mixing Bowl
BBC Radio 1 Essential Mixes, Breezeblock, +++ All mixes tho.
I've started using Free Download Manager for my torrents and it is super fast. Much quicker than µTorrent for me.
Does anyone else use this?
I had a similar problem when living in Angriklee but changed some of the settings in utorrent. think it was in the encryption section. If your using encrypted data they don't know what it is supposedly.
There is a complet How0-To, on setting up utorrent somewhere here in the threads.

I'm experimenting with it and have found the following :-
Reserve judgement.
- d/l speeds fluctuate wildly
- Multi file torrents ( music )..how to select specific files ?
- connects to more seeds/peers than µTorrent
- how to block IP's ?
Thanks Marmite, would like your comments/thoughts on FDM.
You can't select specific files with it (that I know of), so I'd use µTorrent for that. If it's a single file or you want the whole lot, I'd recommend it.
clicky
Havent used it much but I got stuff I couldnt find anywhere else.Got Christ. Blue Shift Emissions from there. He used to be in Boards of Canada if you know them.Nowhere else on the net
Can be hit or miss whats on there
anyone with an invite to bitme.org ?
Sorry
Open sign-up limit (15,000) has been reached. Invites only. If you are lucky you might have a friend who wants to invite you :) We just wanna see how much cheaters will start respecting their accounts after they realize they cant just come back in a get another one >:). Keep this in mind if you are already a member and you invite a known cheater, and you knew about it in the first place both yours and the person you invited are disabled. You will have to come talk to us to get your account reenstated. If you want an invite and you know someone who has one its up to them to give you an invite.
Some of my best friends are cheaters:)
I have always just used public torrents. I seem to end up uploading more than I download for any given movie, which is fine except I don't get any credit for it going forwards, and also the public torrents seem slow (~3 days for a 750 Mb movie). I guess the membership sites are faster? What is a good movie torrent site?
I am mostly looking to download older more obscure stuff. Evil Dead, Exorcist to name a couple + UK/US B/W Classic.
The newer stuff I can rent and rip.
... oh yes.. and does anybody have an invite? :)
When in bangkok, i use a 2mb connection, with bittorrent.
I download from pirate bay, mini nova, or isohunt - as each vary for mp4 or h264 downloading video for my ipod.
the first thing you must make sure is to get the most from your p2p software, by making sure your port is forwarded correctly.
if you have bittorrent this will be indicated at the bottom with a green icon, if your port is not forwarded properly your speed will be slow or you will not be able to download at all, this is indicated by an orange exclamation!
to make sure it is follow speed guide in the options section and select the bar test if port is forwarded if it is not then follow instructions as to do this.
This can dramatically improve your speed, i can get speeds on a slow 2mb at 35kbs which means videos can download in 1-2 hours. albums can take 10 mins.
you could alternatively get your freind in your homecontry to add a sling box to his sky box and watch everything from the comfort of your living room.
I had that problem a few months back and Plan B from this board helped me out. If your ISP is blocking peer 2 peer traffic then you need to turn on encryption. There will be an option for it somewhere in the settings.Quote:

If anybody downloads any classical stuff chances are it will come in lossless compression .ape or .flac format with one file for the disc and accompanied by a .cue file with the timings and metedata for burners like nero to regenerate the tracks.
If you want to just leave the music on a hard drive then you want to retain the compression and break it into tracks. This free app is great for splitting the .ape or .flac into chunks using the .cue file timings and track data. (it does wav and mp3 too)
