Check your DVD player by burning one episode as a data file to a blank CD.

It may be able to play movies in XviD and DivX (the one you have right now is an XviD). If so, you can get lots of episodes onto the same DVD as data files, instead of bothering with conversions.

Wow! That's pretty damn good. And I don't want to know what Marmite is getting either.

I've limited my upload rate to 50KBps.

    Here's a graph of my up/down rates:

Green = both up and downloading
    Blue = downloading
    Yellow = uploading

So about 1/2 of my bandwidth is being used.

Thanks for the suggestions. So far I've downloaded The Rolling Stones Magazine 500 Best Songs Ever, 100 Country Songs and something called "School Fcuk (Asian)" which is currently on the way in. I've only selected this last one for review to see if it might produce some sort of cure for mrsquirrel's lack of libido.

Plus, I'm bored waiting for the wall putty to harden.

Just put some wide tape over the putty to stop it falling out... and forget about it!

And while you're waiting, search for "The Best Ever Collection [30 Albums]" - three parts, 1.5 GB each, 400+ tracks each. Absolutely brilliant.

2 questions: sorry b/c I assume the answers are in the 12 pages, but I couldn't find them.

    1. is "source" better than "jar" or "jartorrent?"

Why different? what should I download.

Thanks in advance if anyone helps.

^ Try Azureus as your BitTorrent Client - it's really easy to use.

And try Torrentscan as your search engine to find torrent files - it can search lots of different sites.

Hi, I downloaded Azureus source. When I try to download a show or video it will say "downloaded. 4.5 KBS or so per minute, and say it's down after one second. But it won't work.

On Limewire however, I can get music, speeched, and vids.

Is the Limewire interfering with Azureus?

    Thanks RDN, and Butterfly.

when you are downloading, azureus should look like this.
at the top are the files which are currently downloading and underneath are the files which have finished downloading.

    Thanks RDN, and Butterfly.
Have a read of BitTorrent. It took me quite a while to get my head around how it works.

One of the biggest problems I had was understanding the difference between a ".torrent file" and a "torrent". As I understand it, a ".torrent file" contains information ("metadata") about where to find the music/video/application/etc., that you want. So you download - using a web browser - the ".torrent file" and then tell your BitTorrent client (software, such as Azureus) to use the information in the ".torrent file" to download the "torrent" (music/video/application, etc).

I wish someone would coin a couple of new words - other than ".torrent" and "torrent" to describe these entities, as a lot of people use them interchangably and therefore wrongly. Maybe we should call them "metadata file" (the ".torrent" file) and "torrent" (?)

Even in this extract from Wikipedia, the word "torrent" is used to describe both the .torrent file AND the music/application file:

    Downloading torrents and sharing files
BitTorrent greatly reduces the load on seeders, because clients generally download the file from each other. In this animation, the coloured bars beneath all of the clients represent individual pieces of the file. After the initial pieces transfer from the seed, the pieces are individually transferred from client to client. This demonstrates how the original seeder only needs to send out one copy of the file for all the clients to receive a copy.

BitTorrent clients are programs which implement the BitTorrent protocol. Each BitTorrent client is capable of preparing, requesting, and transmitting any type of computer file over a network using the BitTorrent protocol.

Using a web browser, users navigate to the site listing the torrent (they mean the ".torrent file"), download it, and open it in a BitTorrent client. After opening the torrent (they mean the ".torrent file"), the BitTorrent client connects to the tracker, which provides it with a list of clients currently downloading the file or files. A group of peers on a BitTorrent or P2P connected with each other to share a particular torrent (they mean the music/video/app file, not the ".torrent file") is generally referred to as a swarm.

Initially, there may be no other peers in the swarm, in which case the client connects directly to the initial seeder and begins to request pieces. The BitTorrent protocol breaks down files into a number of much smaller pieces, typically a quarter of a megabyte (256 kB) in size. Larger file sizes typically have larger pieces. For example, a 4.37-GB file may have a piece size of 4 MB (4096 kB). Pieces are checked as they are received using a hash algorithm to ensure that they are error-free.
So you use your browser to find a ".torrent file" - this contains "metadata" about the music/video/application/game that you want. You download that ".torrent file" to a folder on your hard drive. My folder is called "Torrents" .

Make sure you note what the .torrent file name is - it may not be what you expect. Sometimes it can be preceded by a website name (eg. [IsoHunt] or [TorrentReactor]) or a hash code (eg. "071df996dc38ee00a00dec4b37d3acb76b3ad255.torrent" ). This can make it hard to find later when you add them to your BitTorrent client software, eg. Azureus.

So then you run Azureus - or another BT client - and click on "Open Torrents" and then "Add Files". In the "Choose the torrent file" dialog box that appears, you must browse to your "Torrents" folder and double-click the .torrent file you just downloaded. (This is why it's important to remember the .torrent file name when you download it).

The torrent should take a considerable time to download - minutes, hours or days. There's something wrong if it's all done in a second. Maybe you are thinking of the ".torrent file"? Those are very small (>100kB) and will be downloaded by your browser very quickly. But after you've told your BT client to open the .torrent file, it should that take program a lot longer to get the torrent (music/video/etc). That torrent will appear in your BT client's "download" folder when it has finished downloading. The locations of the default "download folder" and default ".torrent folder" can be set-up in Azureus, and probably all other BT clients so you don't have to go searching for them.

Thanks to all of you for the help.

I must have downloaded the wrong portion or the '.torrent.file.'

I am going to go back and try again.

The Azureaus screen I get is nothing like the one that was posted above.

Also, I downloaded "score" whatever that means.

There is 'score,' and 'jar' and jatorrent.'

I'll go back and fish around.

    Thanks for the help.

You can get Azureus 2.5.0.0 from here.

But you must get the .torrent file for whatever music/video/app you want using your browser and a web site such as Torrent Scan which is a "Torrent Search Engine" searcher.

    Thanks again, RDN.

I have already downloaded Azureus 2.5.0.0

And I keep screwing up the download of the .torrent file.

    So, I will now:

    1. clik on download of the vid.

    2. save it in the right place.
