I use a seedbox paid for in bitcoin - I have an instance of iridium browser with uVPN plugin that I use to access the web interface of rutorrent to add torrents and to manage the email address for the account
I use sftp to download the finished torrents to my computer

Yea . . . 20+ years in IT and I have no idea what you are talking about . . . and I worked in high-end niche test and measurement gear . . .

1. The torrents are not just on the open interwebs for anyone to download for one and not just anyone can add a torrent file to a private tracker.
2. Public tracker is available to everyone. So anyone can watch you while you are downloading the file. Which is insecure. Where comparing it with the private site will more secure. Since each member are registered using an invitation system.
3. If you live somewhere like the US using public trackers can get you in trouble with your ISP or even the legal system not the case with private.
4. Audio files are much higher quality.
5. Speed is no comparison. Public trackers are open to everyone and are not as fast as private.

It comes down to if you trust the torrent itself. Any swinging dick can throw a torrent onto either of those. It could be loaded with malware. That is far less likely to happen on a private tracker.

I have the ability to send invites but I will only do it if I know that someone is willing to follow the rules and build a ratio in other words seed torrents. That is the big difference between public vs private servers if you do not give back to the community you will be held accountable.

I've had no problem doing just that in uNZed.

Years ago the copyright police tried to enforce it but the ISPs put the cost of investigation onto the investigators. The RIAA tried a few times and didn't do a good job of it. They tried to fine single mums and absent landlords for the actions of other household members. Costs + bad PR made them give up. Haven't heard of anyone getting pinged for it for years. There is always the danger of D/Ling a virus but if you can see the file extension it's not hard to spot.

As already mentioned the main advantage of a private tracker is better quality or access to niche content.

Yes and I have for years. When I used public trackers years and years ago I got my internet turned off by my ISP as they got a letter from HBO's legal team that had my IP address mentioned. After that I went to private exclusively and never had another issue.

No-one gives a fuck here in the sandpit, that's why I don't either.

I use torrentday.com, a private site where you have to maintain a U/D ratio and you get penalized for hit and runs. The wife and I have used it for probably 10-12 years with never worrying about a virus and always having excellent DL speeds.

I think I've got one or two invites.

I've used IPT for years and more recently torrentday, never had a problem with either, excellent quality, clean and faster downloads, earn credits for seeding torrents even if not leeched, main demands are attention to down/up ratio (hire a seedbox for a month or two to build up credits, mine at >12tb), and log in or have some activity (eg seed something) in 90 days.
