Criminologist Professor David Wilson uncovers the real stories within Broadmoor and examines how our treatment of the criminally insane has changed since 1863, we check on some of the famous inmates and those that spent their whole life's in the hospital.
Louis Theroux - Dark States
3 programmes exploring the darker side of the US.
LT looks at drugs, prostitution and gun violence respectively.
Nothing startlingly new here, but Louis gets people talking.
TPB
The people on the edge of or transgressing laws on drugs, hooking and killing people in the above series mostly aren't exactly 'lookers' either.
There is a detective superbly named 'Gus Petropolis' though. Our lads can't match that.

Blue Planet II Ep. 1 is up on Eztv:

Crossfire Hurricane.
Rolling Stones docu. Tons of footage of the band from when they were at their peak (up to mid 70's), with recent commentary, anecdotes and recollections from all band members, past and present (excepting Brian Jones, of course) added over the soundtrack.
Pretty compelling stuff, even if you're not a fan of the band. The impact they had on music, culture, and the fans (similarly to the Beatles) that they had at the time is hard to comprehend these days.
This was great fun.

You will enjoy it. Has a cuban and american point of view.
I was reading this fascinating article about Leon Cooper, who died recently. He was involved in the carnage of the battle for Tawara and fought to get the site cleaned up and remains repatriated.

As luck would have it, the documentary is on Youtube:

New series directed by the legendary Errol Morris looks at the inexplicable 'suicide' of a family man in the 1950s.
Just watched the first episode...looks very promising.
Can someone fuck this stupid snow right off, please.
Chasing Coral
Google Street Maps being created...for the undersea world.
Excellent copy available on pb.
I've just watched The Lottery of Birth.
Good.
The topics covered in it are worth discussing. (and there's a paradox therein)
^^^^ The Blue Planet....one of my favourites.
White Fright: Divided Britain
A look at what we used to call 'Race Relations' in Blackburn UK.
I found this quite winningly English in the end.
They interviewed a couple of cabbies that they had previously talked to a few years ago. At the end of the programme they meet up again and you can almost see the thought bubbles: 'Well that was money for nothing'.
Everyone agrees things could be a lot better, which doubtless is true.
What is worrying is that some people can't walk the streets and feel safe, and that politicians of different stripes are on the run from discussing the topic at all.
I just couldn't quite be convinced that the residents of Blackburn are that unhappy to be living in their separate parts of town.
The cabby asks somebody who is moving out 'Who's coming in?' and the woman says 'Oh, a lovely couple!' She then has to be reminded by the cabbie that the programme is about race, and she dutifully takes a more concerned tone and, looking at the pub which is now a Muslim meeting centre, says 'Well this place is a bit run down.'
It really didn't look much tattier than anywhere else.
I mean, it's Blackburn.
Dirty Money on EZTV
6 Documentaries on sleazy companies and their ill-gotten gains.
Watched the first three of these on VW, a payday loan company and big pharma.
Recommended.

Building Giants showcases how key technological innovations enable giant superstructures to be built. Footage filmed during construction along with CGI reveal the building process with astonishing detail.
In Venice, Italy, a new 330-ton storm wall is one of the strongest in the world, and it was built to protect the historic city from disastrous flooding.
Probably the most depressing documentary you'll watch in a long time. As if being set in Leeds isn't bad enough, it's also about crack whores.
BBC Sex Drugs And Murder A Year In The Red Light Zone
^Watched that yesterday. Tragic at times.
And you thought the pigs in Beach road were ugly.
Makes you wonder what kind of men prowl that area looking for 'business'
Many farang men fall in love with the Thai equivalent of those poor women.
Kids left in a village to attend school have to look after each other while their illiterate parents work in a Chinese city.
One of the best documentaries I have ever seen. Beautifully filmed.
Luckily this one's only about 4 minutes.

^Doesn't look any worse than P. Plies' efforts...
They even removed several cig butts from one old bag of putrid remains.
The closest I've come to that slop is a mouthful of sour milk from a bottle I'd left too long.
Science Britannica - 3 Parts - 2013
Just giving this another whirl to refresh my memory.
Wonderful series documenting the achievements of British science since the dawn of the age of reason.
Brian Cox uses the opportunity not just to document the science and the scientists but to explore the history of British public enthusiasm and scepticism of science, the philosophy of the scientific method, the morality of scientific techniques like animal testing and the psychology that drives scientists to do what they do.
Unmissable stuff if you have never seen it.
