So they had to plead guilty to a crime they didn't commit, in order to be freed? I guess that lets the cops off the hook having to keep looking for the real killers, as well as preventing any future recourse the three can take to get compensation from the state.

Indeed it does. And it also hides the fact that the cops have been sweeping stuff under the carpet for years.
If they wanted to find the real culprit they really wouldn't have to look too hard.

    Here's a hint.

And the fact that he had his teeth removed so they wouldn't match the bite mark on the kids face, and his wife dying under suspicious circumstances etc etc...

This guy is as guilty as they come, but the cops are hiding something.

Jason Baldwin was steadfastly against doing so. Only gave in to the Alford Plea as it ensured Damien Echols would be freed from death row, and thus possibly safe his life.

    A Very British Storm Junkie

So funny. When he calls his wife from the US to ask for permission to stay on an extra few days is comedy gold, couldn't stop laughing at this guy. I'm sure he's a cross between David Brent and Alan Partridge.

    Can be watched here;

Excellent link. Cheers. Watching The Rolling Stones: Gimme Shelter, while supposed to be working. Lucky I have some earphones.

Actually the movie is only about 1 hour 49 minutes. After that is has a collection of chats by the various people who appear in the film. It has some interesting info related to the elections of George Bush which I hadn't heard of before. Most of it is about the media and how it censors and has become a propagandist for certain groups. I found it interesting. It just confirms my beliefs that violence against certain corporations and individuals might be the only way to change the US. It will depress you if you are American. I'm sure that it's relevant to those in the UK where the media suffers the way of the modern media.

Another good one about the US related to this one is 'Hacking Democracy' It's about the voting machines used in most of the US nowadays.

SuperSizeMe for people with a functioning brain. Doco maker does the month of Maccas and takes the piss out of the original SuperSizeMe doco along the way. Some funny parts. You'll like it if you're a meateater, won't if you're a vegan.

    The Last Flight of BA149
The British government used a BA civilian airline to land MI6 soldiers in a war zone. The flight landed after the Iraq invasion was underway. Other airlines had already diverted. This one needed to land. The British embassy even sent personnel into the luggae area of Kuwait airport to expedite things before the tanks rolled in to the airport. The 360 or so passengers were left to their fate as the airport was bombed.

Many, myself included, were kept as human shield hostages - to be executed in the event of an invasion or Iraq and collateral damage in the forthcoming coalition bombing. Inexplicably, Saddam released the hostages after 131 days. Noone knows why. My guess is the Americans told the Iraqis they planned to stop at Kuwait, but if we'd been killed public opinion would have said to go all the way.

Geesh, LAF, good thing they didn't go through with it and that you're here to tell us about it. How would you rate the accuracy of the production? I've seen the story on one of those Nat Geo shows - Situation Critical I think?

Spookily accurate. The guy that produced it spent a lot of time researching and speaking with former hostages. There were several mock executions, which left some people very scarred. The Chappell kids certainly had their lives seriously disturbed by the experience. Quite a few suicides amongst returnees. Fortunately Gregor Shatz is now living happily with his two kids working as a freelance designer. I was transferred from Baghdad to N Iraq in the last days of August. The couple in the car with me, Patrick and Jean O'Brien, were both elderly. Patrick had a heart attack that evening and was moved into a hospital in Suleymaniya. I have never been able to find out if he survived to make it home or not.

We knew that "arrangements" had been made for disposing of us. I was relatively lucky in comparison, although had one guard pull out his pistol, hold it against the back of my head to tell me he was going to kill me first when "my American friends come". I had several weeks earlier, perhaps unwisely, called him a sandwog [at][at][at][at]. He then went around pointing it at the others in turn "Mr Bob, I kill you second" etc. Another time he grabbed me, held the gun against my head and fired a shot in the air a foot or so away from my left ear. Wanker! We had enough to eat, although the bread was crawling with weevils, but it's like eating rice crispies - we ate everything that was put in front of us as we never knew when they might stop feeding us.

The last day there the same guard came in with a bottle of Johnnie Walker and told us he was really our friend.

Coincidentally, I'm sure , within a few weeks of talking to the producer about what I'd seen on the plane ( I was sat in business class next to the port door, so saw 10 or so seriously fit and strangely uncommunicative soldier types all wearing sneakers getting off), my UK business received a surprise raid by Trading Standards, a VAT inspection and a tax inspection.......

Wow, thanks for that. So, you're in this production then? Do you speak as yourself or only represented by an actor? If I'm asking too much, you can PM me.

There's just beena book published by the producer of the documentary

The Secret of Flight 149: Amazon.co.uk: Stephen Davis: Books

I had posted a link to it on my FB page which has been explicably deleted. Three weeks after publication it's "not currently available" on Amazon. Strange......

I watched a great one last night on one of the history channels, 'War dogs of the Pacific'. Part of the 'The Pacific' series. It's about how the US Marines used dogs while clearing the Pacific Islands of Japs, well if you like dogs you'll love this, but otherwise it is still a fascinating bit of history. The first hand recollections by the dog handlers are quite moving, that they cared for their dogs just as much as, if not more than, any of their comrades.

War Dogs of the Pacific (2009) - IMDb (46 mins)

There are torrents for it, although not from any of my preferred sites.
Luckily the whole programme is presented on Youtube. Although I can't imagine it will stay up for long.

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!"
