There is a detective superbly named 'Gus Petropolis' though. Our lads can't match that.

Crossfire Hurricane.

Rolling Stones docu. Tons of footage of the band from when they were at their peak (up to mid 70's), with recent commentary, anecdotes and recollections from all band members, past and present (excepting Brian Jones, of course) added over the soundtrack.
Pretty compelling stuff, even if you're not a fan of the band. The impact they had on music, culture, and the fans (similarly to the Beatles) that they had at the time is hard to comprehend these days.

Watched Cuba and the cameraman last night on netflix. An american journalist recounts over 4 decades of travel in cuba and his relationship with 4 ordinary cuban families. Plenty of historic footage of castro. Very interesting perspective from the journalist. Engoyed it

I was reading this fascinating article about Leon Cooper, who died recently. He was involved in the carnage of the battle for Tawara and fought to get the site cleaned up and remains repatriated.

White Fright: Divided Britain

A look at what we used to call 'Race Relations' in Blackburn UK.

I found this quite winningly English in the end.

They interviewed a couple of cabbies that they had previously talked to a few years ago. At the end of the programme they meet up again and you can almost see the thought bubbles: 'Well that was money for nothing'.

Everyone agrees things could be a lot better, which doubtless is true.

What is worrying is that some people can't walk the streets and feel safe, and that politicians of different stripes are on the run from discussing the topic at all.

I just couldn't quite be convinced that the residents of Blackburn are that unhappy to be living in their separate parts of town.

The cabby asks somebody who is moving out 'Who's coming in?' and the woman says 'Oh, a lovely couple!' She then has to be reminded by the cabbie that the programme is about race, and she dutifully takes a more concerned tone and, looking at the pub which is now a Muslim meeting centre, says 'Well this place is a bit run down.'

It really didn't look much tattier than anywhere else.

I mean, it's Blackburn.

6 Documentaries on sleazy companies and their ill-gotten gains.

Watched the first three of these on VW, a payday loan company and big pharma.

Recommended.

Just giving this another whirl to refresh my memory.

Wonderful series documenting the achievements of British science since the dawn of the age of reason.

Brian Cox uses the opportunity not just to document the science and the scientists but to explore the history of British public enthusiasm and scepticism of science, the philosophy of the scientific method, the morality of scientific techniques like animal testing and the psychology that drives scientists to do what they do.

Unmissable stuff if you have never seen it.
