I'm not the only one either, and this thread will prove it.
He's popular with Mancs and Merkins, thickies and thinkers - but not people who don't like him.
..Wish I could download more than 33 seconds of Pregnant For The Last Time.

^ Yeah but it coupled well with 'Merkins'.
I don't know why I started this thread as I have not been listening to him lately, (It's Hall & Oats week in disco Scampy) but I never gave him credit for Teenage dad On His Estate - one of the best songs I've heard from him and anyone who considers themselves an admirer of his work may not have heard this one as it never made it onto You Are The Quarry, though god/Morrissey only knows why.
You chase in the rat-race
And you always feel so hollow
You marry because it's expected of you
And it only makes you feel more lonely
But still you look down on the
Teenage dad on, on his estate
He's happy - so leave him alone
With his baby and his modest home
He's happy - so leave him alone
With his Jensen Interceptor
It's just a runaround
You defer to the views of the television news
Let someone do your thinking for you
And you still buy a daily newspaper
And you find everything there but the news
And still you look down on the
Teenage dad on, on his estate
He's happy - so leave him alone
With his baby and his modest home
He's happy - so leave him alone
With his Jensen Interceptor
It's just a runaround
You become your parents' parent
And you love them
But you can't help feeling used
And you hate the teenage dad on his estate
Because he's poor / but he's happier / than you
They're all laughing at you
You're a dipper, a slider, cart-horse provider
Nobody cares about you
Just as long as you're out there bringing it in
Despising the grin on the face of the boy
With the methadone
With his methadone
He's happy - so leave him alone
With his methadone
He's happy - so leave him alone

"I'm an outsider by choice, but not truly. It's the unpleasantness of the system that keeps me out. I'd rather be in, in a good system. That's where my discontent comes from: being forced to choose to stay outside.
My advice: Just keep movin' straight ahead. Every now and then you find yourself in a different place."

Morrissey is a boring kunt.
a bit like me I suppose
Cant say as Ive heard too much of him on his own. The odd track here or there but nothing thats made me go out and get his solo albums.
When he was with The Smiths thats a different kettle of daffodils. I was into rock/thrash/death metal at the same time and these hardcore Smiths fans couldnt work me out. Top music but comes across a bit of a knob sometimes.
Morrissey -- wasn't he the singer for the Doors?
Never heard of 'im.
Morrissey is a great lyricist, dark humor at its best. The Smiths were easily one of the best rock bands of the 1980's. Meat Is Murder was brilliant. When Morrissey split with Johnny Marr, I think his music went down hill. Morrissey's a bit of a strange guy, not admitting to ever having sex until he was well his into his forties. His politics are as unique and always appealed to me, as he is fairly nationalistic but progressive at the same time.
From the song Bengali in Platforms (1988):
"Bengali, Bengali, shelve your Western plans. And understand that life is hard enough when you belong here"
From a 2004 interview prior to the US presidential election:
"Bush has single-handedly turned the United States into the most neurotic and terror-obsessed country on the planet".
And finally, one of my favorite lyrics from Frankly Mr. Shankley:
"When I'm lying in my bed, I think about life and I think about death.
And neither one particularly appeals to me."
An interesting guy that Morrissey.
Girlfriend in a coma is a classic
Blokes still a cnut though
I think the album Rank is one of the best live albums ever!
Johnny Marr one of the best guitar players ?
^ Hey Scooter, do you know what the classical music is at the beginning of Rank before he comes on stage?
It's often used with industrial revolution footage and I've been after it for years, it's well known but I don't know if it's Tchaicovsky, Wagner, or what.
^
Its called Romeo & Juliet.
Not 100% but I think its Tchaicovsky.
Funny I have it here in CM with me.I did one mini disc(No ipod in those days)with classical and had to stick R & J on it.Its a long fine piece.
^ Cheers, i'll try downloading it.
I liked the Smiths but when Johnny Marr split I, kind of, lost touch with all of them. I still have a lot of catching up to do, in the music department.
Shit, a Scamp thread that I find myself agreeing with
But sometimes I'd feel more fulfilled making Christmas cards for the mentally ill (and Texpat)
Gothic rubbish music for suicidal teenage college kids, voice was and is bloody awful
sorry scamp he is one of my pet hates
^The first word of that posts probably shows that you have never actually listened to any of his work. Gothic, in what way?
^ No i haven't can't stand the sound of his voice, he was a hero to all the goths at my college things may have changed in that respect it was a while ago
One of them for sure. And that chap from Stone Roses who went on the Sea Horses or whatever they are called.
However, I think you should know that Jimmy Page page wrote Stairway to Heaven when he was in his 20s whilst I could play it on my guitar when I was only 15.
I think that says something.
