Instagram, Twitter or YouTube, which is the most profitable for content providers?

Instagram, Twitter or YouTube, which is the most profitable for content providers?
Anyone know for sure what these various companies pay you if you have a 1000 subscribers and want to monetize your account?
How much do you get paid and how often??

Seems a bit of a minefield but it's the future for online earning ..

    A USP is needed.

Not sure ‘Me Getting Hammered in my Shed’ will do it.

It's not at all. Those companies want those profits. There are plenty of examples of influencers crying when they those their revenue stream. And as Ciz says, you need a USP first.

I believe the media calls the successful ones ‘Influencers’.

I despise that kind of influence, because it generally affects vulnerable young people who are poorly educated.

Backspin is a prime example of someone who is a shallow and easily influenced simpleton. Generally attracted to shiny, noisy things, which promise great wealth, but quickly turn to dust or suicide. (See Putin).

^^^^had to Google USP. I assume it's Unique Selling Proposition and not United States Pharmacopoeia!

For a YouTube channel to be monetized, you need to have at least 1,000 subscribers and ~10,000 watch hours (I think - not sure of the watch hours). I once watched a vid explaining "how much does YT pay". A starting channel may reach 1,000 subs fast but might not hit the watch hours needed, so as a "content creator" (that's what they call themselves" they have to put out several vids for ppl to watch.

How much you get paid also depends on where most of your audience is. If most of your audience is from the USA, UK, EU, etc, you'll get paid more than if your audience is from TH, PH, South East Asia. I think for PH-based vloggers, they get paid 4 usd per 1,000 views, while in the US it's 8 usd/1k views. It depends on how much companies are willing to pay YT/Google / Alphabet for placing ads.

If your vid is >10 min long, you can control the number of ads to put in your vid. Usually, they put 3 (start, middle, end). If your viewers watch the ads, the vlogger also gets money from Adsense.

More subscribers = usually more views, but not all your subs will watch your vids. If you're lucky and your vid goes "viral" and gets 1M views, then good foe you! YT/ Alphabet also gets a percentage of the money from views.

If you do a "live stream" and your viewers donate money via "super chats", then it's add'l $$ for you. However, YT gets 30% (or 40?) of the superchat money.

Some vloggers have Patreon or membership (monthly deal), Paypal or "Buy me a coffee" links (for 1 time donations). YT doesn't touch the income from those.

Some vloggers put hours of filming & editing into 1 vid and get few views (which is of course disappointing). So, some have stopped being vloggers because it wasn't profitable for them.

If you're a lifestyle / travel/ expat/ van life etc vlogger, then you're also putting your life in the public (no privacy). For some travel/ vanlife couples, it became awkward when the relationship ended and the couple split. There's also the issue of how to divide the earnings from the channel.

Some vloggers also put pics of sexy ladies (either themselves or their GF/ partner) or random ladies to get more views. Some also put provocative titles. Both are click bait.

There are also some channels which are technology/ gadget reviews, cinema/ TV show reviews etc, which aren't personal in topic.

If you have a lot of followers on Instagram or Tiktok, you can also get monetized (but am not sure how).

Edit: if you have sufficient number of subs, you can reach out to companies to sponsor your vid, i.e. NordVPN, Surfshark, Curiosity Stream, Alpo Dogfood, etc - the companies will pay you for promoting their product.

This was the vid that I watched some years ago. He's an American vlogger & was based in PH pre-covid. I think he left during covid & don't know where he is now. He explained it well. (He had a sexy GF and would use her as clickbait too.)

You’d have to be better at it than that Norven weirdo whose vids Topper puts up, katie.

^lol, no. I was curious about how ppl earn from YT and a friend showed me that vid/ link. Some colleagues/ friends have YT channels (but not monetized - more of a hobby, I think).

I value my privacy and don't want my life to be in the public domain. I also don't have a bikini body to post clickbait photos or vids! No deep cleavage either. Lol.

    +++++

One of the kids of a colleague (I think he was 10 or 11 at the time) told his mom that when he grows up, he wants to be a YouTuber! My colleague said, "you can be a YouTuber but finish college first!"

Apparently, there are kids who earn loads from YT by reviewing games/ toys.

Some people (gamers) can also earn by streaming - not sure how that's monetized.

Some "influencers"/ YouTubers also reach out to hotels/ resorts/ restos for free stay/ meals in exchange for making vids abt their business or for good reviews.

Edit: apparently, it's known among travel vloggers that if your vid is in English, your subscribers & views increase if you go to PH and India and praise the country (food, ppl, etc). When they leave PH/ India and go to other countries (where English isn't widely spoken), their views plummet. Clickbait vloggers! (rolleyes)

The primary revenue stream on YT is ads and payment is through Google Adsense. This will tell you all you need to know...

    Yes, that works.

However good the music might be, there's the extra temptation to see what other videos this woman, I mean couple, has made.

    Gratuitous guitar solo video ...

^ He should re-negotiate... I get 80 Satang per picture.

I've found this Youtube thing to be very fickle. On my channel, amongst a lot of different content I've posted several street dog feeding and street dog vaccinating videos but each one seems to attract only around 25 views a year... and that soon tails off.

I doubt that my entire portfolio of videos has totalled 1000 views and I really can't see the point of moneterising it. I think the most popular video I put up was of two millipedes getting it on.

Re: the sexy lady musicians & drummer - what they choose to wear is up to them. They can opt to wear buttoned up shirts or spaghetti-strapped ones, but the tank top gets more views, so... I guess it's their business strategy. An adult woman knows who posts pics/ vids of themselves online (whether on FB, YT, IG or even here on TD) knows what she's doing (and the possible effect).

Re: calculators, if anyone wants to calculate/ estimate YT earnings, you can try to compare DJPat (BKKPAT) earnings & CB Media. Set the income at 8 usd/ 1 k views, multiply by the number of views for that vid, then do it for the other vids posted that month. Then multiply by 0.55 (55%), since YT gets 45% of the creator's income. (Yeah, 45%!) Maybe choose the June or July 2022 vids.

@bsnub - thanks for the link. I referred to online) game) streaming via Twitch, etc which is a different platform.

Btw, some musicians/ artists also get "discovered" via YouTube.

Arnel Pineda (of Journey) was hired this way. A ftiend of Arnel's posted some vids on YT of Arnel & his (cover) band, way back in the early 2000s. A member of Journey saw his vid - Journey was preparing for a tour & they needed a vocalist. The band contacted him & brought him to the US to audition. He was hired. Win/ win for both sides. The band got a vocalist, Arnel became rich & famous (he grew up poor). Arnel started singing in bands at 15 or 16.

I found the story of his US visa interview heartwarming. At the embassy, the consul asked him: what's the purpose of your travel!? Arnel answrred: To audition for the band Journey. Consul: can you sing this song (a not popular Journey song)? Arnel: Sure. Then sings it perfectly. Consul: your visa is approved!

For those who don't know Arnel (he's Filipino)
