Watch out for Kodi 19 disabling your add-ons

If you are using Kodi add-ons for movies and TV, then you should make sure Kodi doesn't update to 19.

As they've been promising for a long time, they are disabling any add-on written in Python 2, which judging by the angry posts I've seen today is a lot of them.

I have one Sports IPTV that I use all the time and which has fallen by the wayside, so it's downgrade time for me until they fix it.

...... what’s interesting to note is that Kodi’s developers announced this transition almost three years ago, justifying their decision by listing the following reasons.

    • Python 2 has reached its end-of-life on January 1, 2020. That means Kodi relied on the latest available version of Python 2 to the end of its life. As a way to keep the stability of the application intact, Kodi 19 ‘Matrix’ had to switch to Python 3.
    • Speaking of Python 3, there were no reasons to delay this upgrade, and this programming language is more than mature enough, being released more than a decade ago.
    • Just like other types of software, Kodi tries to follow good practices in programming. With that said, most of the currently available Python books, courses, and tutorials focus on Python 3.
    • And lastly, this decision was made to allow Kodi to implement new features in the future. The fact is that Python 2 is no longer under active development (it has been receiving security patches only). On the other hand, Python 3 is under active development, allowing Kodi to follow that programing language’s new capabilities.

    LOL

I spent the better part of last night side loading 18.9 back on and re-installing all my fucking addons because of that stupid shit-house upgrade.

Then real debrid, then subtitles, then IMDB, etc etc etc took forever.

I only have one add-on that I can't use anywhere else, but if you're just using it for movies and TV it's far easier to use apps these days.

Go to apktime.com and download their apk. Use their chart to pick the top three or four and away you go.

I’ve found that using the top 4-5 addons (not builds, just addon apps) in conjunction with Real-Debrid: All-in-one solution and open subs is the best way to use kodi.

I usually use a vpn alongside Netflix, Prime, and Hulu but when the net is too shit for that I use kodi.

I have a nivida shield Android box I travel with to pass quarantine time with with all this on it.

    Maybe I’m misunderstanding.

You talking about apps within kodi, or addons for kodi.

If your side loading “apps” as in applications, and not kodi addons, then you don’t need kodi in the first place.

I am talking about Android .apks instead of Kodi addons.

And no, you don't need Kodi in the first place.

You don't need to sideload once you've installed the APKtime app.

Or you can just download them with FileLinked.

They all work fine, and support RD, etc.

I would have binned Kodi a long time ago if it wasn't for that one app I use.
