    I don't know how I missed this.
Made in 2105, I think, it's an absolute eye opener.
Sure, as the guy says "he's picking the flowers not the weeds" but as someone involved in education in various countries for 40 years this blew me away.
    The education aspects are remarkable.
I've worked in many of these countries and can testify to its genuine collection of flowers rather than weeds.

    Excellent.

    Check out "Weekender" on Netflix.

Funny movie charting the start of the rave scene in late 1980's Madchester.

I thought I'd give Joaquin Phoenix another chance and watched You Were Never Really Here. He plays some sort of rent-a-kid-rescuer.

It's even more boring than The Joker.

Watched 21 Bridges. Pretty typical cop type flick with a few sub plots. Good action.

    Solid 7.5/10.

Nicolas Cage movie on Netfix were the drugs are being corrupted with deadly consequences.
The drugs are traced from the source leading to a dramatic conclusion.
Loads of sex and drug use, now what's the movie called???

    "Color Out Of Space". 2019.

Interpretation of weird-meister H.P. Lovecraft's short story, starring Nicolas Cage and Joely Richardson.
The opening premise is a meteorite falling to Earth, and landing in the recently-acquired farm of Cage's family. Things start going seriously awry as whatever is inside this comet starts seeping into the water supply and local environment.. Everything is tinted with hues of pink and purple, animals and fauna start to change, and time itself is also distorted.
Cage and Richardson do a good job of leading the viewer into the descent of utter madness towards the end of the movie. Some quite unnerving scenes and moments in this film. Cage reprising some of the berserk energy of last year's cult acid-trip classic "Mandy". I enjoyed it. 8/10 for me.

    In Fabric

I downloaded this since it was on a 'best movies of 2018' list.

Quirky tale of a haunted dress from BBC films.

Had some of the Black Mirror vibe about it I thought although it was set a couple of decades in the past rather than the future.

I did not quite see what was Best Of about it but I had drank most of a bottle of sparkling white so I may have missed some of the subtler allusions.

^I enjoyed it, reviewed it a few pages back. Spooky, black humour, and weirdly erotic in parts. The 2 female leads; Marianne Jean-Baptiste and Fatma Mohamed were very good imo, also.

    Richard Jewell.

Clint Eastwood's interpretation of the hero / villain of the Atlantic City 1996 Olympics bombing incident. Richard Jewell was the security guard who found the suspect device hidden in a bag and was moving people out of the way when the bomb exploded..
The simple-minded guy was initially a hero, but FBI (complicit with ruthless media reporters) used his lack of guile and fawning to authority figures to implicate him as the main suspect (without ever charging him) who actually planted the bomb..
Some good performances from the lead Paul Walter Hauser as Jewell, plus Sam Rockwell and Kathy Bates as his lawyer and Mum.
Watchable, if a little overwrought on the media overkill / "big government" issues. 7/10 from me.

    Star Wars IX

How can the Mandalorian be so good and the new Star Wars be so meh?

I feels like it is creaking under the weight of trying to live up to its heritage and consequently unable to do anything remotely interesting.

In fairness, I have never seen the merit of Star Wars the way others do, it always seemed to me to be thin, pointless plots disguised by action and CGI.

The Mandalorian is the first thing I've seen in the franchise that I can honestly say I've thoroughly enjoyed.

...The Last Thing He Wanted...yet another Netflix mediocrity with a strong cast: Anne Hathaway, Ben Affleck, Rosie Perez, and Willem Dafoe...poorly written and plotted, this borefest has nothing to recommend it except the credits at the end: 2/10

Afterlife on Netflix is a sarcastic, deep, emotional series well worth a watch if you haven't already.
IMHO Ricky Gervais at his finest!

Harry, umm, I'm not sure how best to explain this but here goes.

Do you know when people write books aimed at the near illiterate simpleton who only wants to be entertained by a plot line populated by one dimensional characters exploring themes a child of 11 could comprehend but it's something to while away the time until they can get drunk, watch sports or pour some concrete. Well, the same thing happens in films. Some movies are superficial, simplistic entertainments targeted at the mass market populated by consumers with the intellectual heft of an American 14 year old, and some movies are what we call in the trade " art cinema". This features a canon of works which principally explores the human condition using the medium of film as a means to depict the complexity and breadth of social interaction within the spectrum of infinite causality defining the full range of human thought and emotion requiring actors of profound talent to communicate in a language that is often non-verbal. " You Were Never Really Here" is in this genre.

I think you are probably better off sticking to Transformers etc.

Sorry to disappoint but I was being quite sincere.

But I'm a bit surprised by your response, in what way did you think 'Arry is not a bit of a lumpen lout with all the sensitivity, grace and discernment of a London brick?
