The prestige was entertaining. No great shakes or ground breaking anything, simply entertaining. Alpha dogs? never heard of it.

sorry, it's Alpha Dog, very new (2007)....

A fairly mixed bag of reviews but looks quite interesting.

    MOVIE CONSENSUS
A glossy yet unflinching portrait of violent, hedonistic teenagers. Bruce Willis and Sharon Stone chew the scenery, while Justin Timberlake gives a noteworthy performance.

    Movie Synopsis

A difficult gestation period led to Nick Cassavetes's ALPHA DOG being delayed and facing possible legal battles after the real-life subject of the film (alleged kidnapper and murderer Jesse James Hollywood) objected to his portrayal. The cinematic version of Hollywood is named Johnny Truelove and played by Emile Hirsch (LORDS OF DOGTOWN). Truelove is a wild 18-year-old who deals drugs for a living and hangs out with his posse, who revolve around a core of Frankie (Justin Timberlake), Elvis (Shawn Hatosy), and Tiko (Fernando Vargas). When a client of Truelove's, Jake Mazursky (Ben Foster), is unable to pay off his crystal-meth debt, the group kidnaps his 15-year-old stepbrother, Zack (Anton Yelchin), who becomes a Patty Hearst-like accomplice in his own abduction. Indeed, Zack positively revels in his new position, and lives it up with the boys at every opportunity he gets. But Cassavetes's film really revs into gear as the cops close in on Truelove's band of outsiders, and they face a tough decision about what to do with Zack.

Nope I buy in bulk from the CD dealers , I normally get a "handful"

This one was good production value by Hustler Video , they use nice looking girls.

    "Flight Plan"
I was expecting some boring action cliche movie from the promo but I was surprised that the suspense was actually there and it was very well acted. Great for a lazy movie night. Still good.

    "The Wicker Man"
Boring and not convincing. Cage was exceptionally miscast in that movie. I never saw him acting that bad except maybe in that horrible "Fast and Furious" series.

Not vulgar except for the single slapstick scene in the middle.
    very funny, certainly worth watching.

Just finished watching Pan's labyrinth... definitely one of the better movies I have seen in the last year.

It was actually rottentomatoes.com's best overall reviewed movie of 2006.

No time to write much right now so nicked this from the net.

    CRITICAL CONSENSUS

Pan's Labyrinth is Alice in Wonderland for grown-ups, with the horrors of both reality and fantasy blended together into an extraordinary, spellbinding fable. Told through the eyes of a little girl whose imaginary world is inhabited by nightmarish creatures, Pan's Labyrinth is a visually imaginative and allegorical take on the fears she faced in Spain during WWII.

    SYNOPSIS

Written and directed by Guillermo del Toro, PAN'S LABYRINTH is a thrilling, violent fairy tale set in post-Civil War Spain. Ivana Baquero stars as Ofelia, a young girl who moves with her mother, Carmen (Ariadna Gil), into the home of Captain Vidal (Sergi López), in an abandoned mill in the middle of dark, dangerous woods. Vidal is leading his team of soldiers against resistance fighters--and he will do whatever is necessary to kill every last one of them. As Vidal bosses around the pregnant Carmen, a flying creature leads Ofelia through a garden labyrinth and into an underground cave ruled by Pan (HELLBOY's Doug Jones), who believes that Ofelia might be the lost princess of this strange yet magical place. To prove she is royalty, Ofelia must complete three tasks, each more difficult and terrifying than the previous one. Meanwhile, Vidal is becoming more and more paranoid, torturing and murdering seemingly at will. Del Toro (THE DEVIL'S BACKBONE, HELLBOY, CRONOS) creates a marvelous battle between good and evil, between heroes and villains, in both the real world aboveground and the mystical land below. Baquero gives a compelling performance as the terrorized Ofelia, who is befriended by Mercedes (Maribel Verd&#250, a woman who harbors some secrets of her own. Stellar production design, superb special effects, and a stirring score by Javier Navarrete add to the scary fun. Selected as the closing-night entry in the 2006 New York Film Festival, PAN'S LABYRINTH is a captivating story that is not for the squeamish.

    "The Good Shepard"

Nothing special, a bit boring and grey. Story of WW2 spying with the CIA. Very grim and not the usual happy ending.

    Directed by Robert de Niro

Just watched "Flushed Away" The ol' lady likes these feature length cartoons, I like 'em with a more adult theme myself.

Flushed Away is about a rat that gets flushed down the shitter and discovers an underworld of rats frogs and slugs. He spends his time dealing with gangsters and tough talking lady rats, the slugs add a nice musical touch.

It is a movie for all ages an adventure/romance plot that could have starred Humphrey Bogart, or maybe Jimmy Stewart woulda been better. The flick is full of jokes and silliness targeted at adults. Stupid movie, made me laugh out loud more'n a few times. Kind of movie makes you think, "I shoulda got stoned for this" Kids will love it and you won't be bored to tears watching it.

    Rocky Balboa. 2006

I downloaded this one on the strength of some surprisingly good reviews. I suspect many of the reviews were good because they were expecting the movie to be so awful.
It's not awful, it's pleasantly surprisingly not bad though not the movie of the year as one reviewer declared it to be.

The older Rocky comes across as a much more pleasant figure, thoroughly decent chap.
The plot is basically that the undefeated heavyweight world champ, played by Antony Tarver has run out of real challengers, a computer generated match up of the 2 in their prime shows Sly winning a fight between them.
Why Rocky decides to apply for a license is a bit vague, he seems quite happy with his restaurant business and his son thinks he's pretty screwed up for thinking of a ring return.
Anyway, he gets his license, trains for about 10 minutes in true Rocky fashion and fights an epic brawler versus fighter battle.

A heartwarming ending and not anywhere near as grandstanding as some of the earlier Rocky movies.

    6 - 10

    Review: Oasis (2002)

    Oasis (2002)

This is a VERY dark, & imaginative movie from Korean director Chang-dong Lee.

It's about a upper 20 year old man who is released form prison for involuntary manslaughter. The main character seems mentally deficient & acts like a BIG, but dangerous kid. A couple of days after being released from prison he goes to visit the family of the man he killed, & brings along a fruit basket! Of course this meeting doesn't go well, but in the process, he sees that the daughter of his victim has severe cerebral palsy.

After he is kicked out of the house, our main character ends up starting up a odd relationship w/ the girl w/ c.p.!

This movie dares to travel into some VERY dark & scary territory, I was surprised by some of the places this movie took me to. But in the same breathe, I say kudos to the director for being so bold, not only did he take us on this crazy ride, but it seem to have some sort of direction!

I like the way this movie was shot, it had a documentary feel @ times & when you saw the world through the girl w/ c.p., you saw how the mind can free people from their physical confines! The editing & the acting was superb, creating a smooth feel to this jagged movie!

    I give Oasis 3.5/4 stars!
