Review the last film you watched

Said that in the review, just found it all a bit dull really.

Well, it's not your 24 series, that's for sure, but I thought the slow pace of the movie and the little story telling was a refreshing change for once. The state of despair that old dude was in and what it accomplished was why the whole story was interesting. The slow pace of the movie could be regarded as boring but I liked it that way and it fitted the idea of the movie and the character quite well, outlining the rush coming from the speed of his "slow" bike. A slow old man transforming himself and his bike into the world fastest moving objects.

What were you expecting "Torque" and "2fast 2furious" ?

PS: those 2 above should be nominated for worst movie of the decade

Bit slow, but worth the effort. Bit too much of the "Seppos saving the world" for my liking. Bruce Willis was good though. 3/5

Children of Men

Fcuking great. A vision of England's future where all foreigners are illegal (I presume that includes the Scots and the Welsh ), rounded up and stuffed into camps and left to eat each other. Or something. Some plot about no sprogs having been born on the planet for 18 years or something. 4/5.

Hellboy

Took me a while getting around to seeing this one. But well worth watching, especially if you've got a bellyfull of chang at the time Can't go wrong with a film full of Nazi's and demons. 4/5

Fcuking great! You'll either love this or hate it. A hitman get's poisoned with a drug that will kill him if his heart slows down - so he has to increasingly dangerous stunts to keep his heart ticking away at max. 4/5

Just been watching Babel with Brad Pitt sort of staring, well just in it really, it's really crap.Starts quite slow and then just gows down hill. I managed to get through it all with copious ammounts of the fast forward button.

Gee, RC, I really beg to differ. I saw "Babel" in a nice theater in the US and was transfixed the entire two hours and twenty minutes. It's quite a compelling tale of miscommunication and cultural differences. The cinematography in the Tokyo segments is brilliant. The acting all around is superb; especially the Moroccan kid and the Mexican housekeeper.

Yea the acting, cinematography ect were pretty good....it just bored the shit out of me. The whole idea on how everything inter-twined was in theroy good as well, unfortunatly it just does'nt get over the being boring bit. I tend to watch movies to be entertained and this just did'nt do it

The Descent 2006

Because I don't get to see many movies and don't really hear much about them I popped over to rottentomatoes.com to get a hold of their list for the best reviewed movies of 2006. This horror flick was ranked numbner 9 with 85 % positive ratings from over 100 independant reviewers.
My feeling is that either 2006 was not a vintage year or that the movie review community were partaking in some new mind altering drug.

To sum up the movie...it was rubbish, absolute pants and a wastre of the nearly 2 hours that I spent watching it when I could have been wasting my time more constructively.

The basic plot sees a group of 6 girls, might have been 7 who decide for reasons totally left to our imagination to explore a cave in the middle of a mountainous area that might have been near Seattle??
We are given no time to get to know or empathise with the characters before they pootle off to the cave and jump into darkness.
Problem is that most are inexperienced and we later find out that the cave has never been explored before.

The intrepid girls drive onwards through claustrophobic nooks and crannies before geting lost and trapped.
Unfortunately they get separated and you never really have any idea who is where in the cave as the movie is lit mainly by dim torchlight and you have barely had a chance to get to know their names or voices or maybe I had just been giving this dire shite the scant attention it deserves.

Anyway, these monster type things appear, they look a lot like Smeagal but whiter and totally blind, some sort of human thingummy that has adapted to live in a cave 2 kilometres below ground.
The girls thankfully start getting picked off one by one until there are none left and except for one who I assume was going to be eaten at the end because she was surrounded by cave dwellers and was talking to a ghost of her daughter who was holding a birthday cake.
I shit you not.

Blood Diamond 2007, Leonardo De Caprio, Djimoun Hounsou,,

I watched the movie last night, and for a change De Caprio was convincing. He matured in many ways, and gave an excellent performance in this movie. He didn't master the South african accent to the tee, but it was good enough. Djimoun Hounsou also gave a solid peformance, and was "true" African.

Jennifer Connelly was not that great. She represents the conscience angle, questioning the ethical and moral issues surounding the conflict.

I thought "Blood Diamond" was boring. Long on explosions and violence and short on plot. It's a shame Di Caprio couldn't maintain his "South African" accent throughout the flick. I found that to be distracting.

The Mothman Prophecies

Never really liked Richard Gere,(Short arse.)but I did enjoy this movie.

Also has a good cast: Laura Linney, Will Patton and Debra Messing

Based on a so called true story, about a strange creature and strange occurances that happened in Point Pleasant,Virginia in the 70's.

The movie starts off with the death of Geers wife to a brain tumour.After her death,he goes for a late night drive and his car breaks down 400 miles later.The problem is that he was only driving for an hour...Then lots more spooky stuff.....

Lock yourself into a dark room with a couple of libations of your choice.very believable.

Va, Vis et Deviens (Go, Live and Become)

French language flick about the Ethiopian 'Fallasha' Jews who were acknowledged to be 'real' Jews by Israel, and covertly brought from Ethiopia during the Menghistu regime to start a new life in Israel. The story revolves around a young boy whose mother is actually Christian, but who makes him leave with the Jews when the lorries come to their refugee camp, so that he will have a chance of a better life. The movie is centered around his experiences trying to bluff his way into Israel and growing up in a society that is predominantly white.

Good points: Definitely worth watching, in my opinion especially for the environment shots - how many movies have you seen which take place in Israel and Ethiopia? I didn't know much about the background story and that in itself was interesting to find out more about. The acting is generally good, if not exceptional.

Bad points: At times, the movie seems like an ad flick for Medecins Sans Frontièrs (I guess it is a worthy cause and all, but it becomes a little too obvious). Some of the sentimental scenes are very cliché, and resemble advertisements for French agricultural products (old grandpa says profound things tongue in cheek to grandchild as the sun is going down...).

But anyway, it is definitely worth seeing. English subs are available in .srt format.

I just watched The World's Fastest Indian (2005), & I thought it was pretty good! People have already given a run down of what this flick is about, so no need for me to do that!

I'm not usually a sucker for feel good movies like this, but Anthony Hopkins is such a master at his craft it was nice watching him play this inspirational character!

The main thing I got out of this movie is the importance of FOLLOWING YOUR DREAMS!

So I would give it 3.25/4 stars! Check it out, especially you bike fanatics out there!

Seems I'm the only person who thought it was ordinary.

Anthony Hopkins is Welsh and therefore being excellent is a given, didn't find his character overly inspirational, just a bit pitiful.
Having said that it was much better than the tpical American underdog makes good sports movie. (except for that really good one where Denzel Washington fights racism to become head football coach of a high school team ....name??)
