    Another Round (Druk)

Thought I would start work on ploughing through the oscars.

This won the foreign language I think I read.

Ambiguous morals to take from this Danish fable but you have to respect these scandis when it comes to hardcore hooligan level alcoholism

In one curious scene I noted that they order a top notch champagne and the waiter uncorks it and pours it in the kitchen to bring out on a tray. Very strange I thought. If I was paying top restaurant dollar for real champers I would want

    1. to see the cork pop and witness the foaming frenzy
    2. to see the bubbles I am drinking coming from said bottle (as opposed to a bottle of the $10 plonk I am more accustomed to gargling)

Mads Michelson is certainly worth an oscar

    7.8/10

You cannot watch this movie without a couple of snifters to join the worthy warriors at least a small way along their epic journey so I chose Drambuie and Cuarenta-y-tres

The great thing about liquers is that they come pre-syruped and do not require any doctoring

the best thing about this stomach churning woke hollywood love-in called the oscars was that it was won by hopkins, an 82 year old heterosexual white male who couldn't even be bothered to tune in or show up to collect his award.

    that'll learn 'em.

^ I think he skipped it to visit his fathers grave...

    --EDIT--

Had a quick dig around and couldn't find any news about him turning gay, changing his preferred pronoun or if he now identifies as a mixed African/Asian.

The Sound of Metal on Netflix.

Review the last film you watched-68283630-5566-4c6e-802a-efe8dc2c383d-jpeg

Not quite sure what I was expecting, but not the deep and emotional movie it turned out to be. A heavy metal drummer loses his hearing and thinks his life is over. His girlfriend gets him into a program for the deaf where he struggles readjust his life.

Started watching this film about 20 minutes in not having a clue what it was about or the film title 7/10.

Jean-Baptiste Grenouille, born with a superior olfactory sense, creates the world's finest perfume. His work, however, takes a dark turn as he searches for the ultimate scent.

I think you're being generous. I found it to me mechanical, cold, computer generated crap.

He vowed to stop doing action movies after the last Taken, but I assume they keep dangling cheques under his nose.

He really is starting to look and sound like a man way past the stage of playing a vet taking on criminals.

At least Michael Caine had the common sense to play his age when he last did it.

Thanks to MissKit for reminding me to watch I Care A Lot

It had popped up on my torrent feed but i had let it pass.

But glad I went back as it was a lot of fun.

The denouement was maybe not quite up to the measure of the preceding 1 hour 30 but on the whole it was still top notch taut drama and fine entertainment

    8.1/10

MissKitt is on fire with her recommendations this month

Up tonight was Sound of Metal 2019

How did I miss this when it won 2 oscars.

Beautifully observed performance from the Asian lead guy. I could not think where I had seen him until I remembered I think he was the lead in the Rykers Island prison murder mystery TV drama 'The Night Of' I think it was called, which was also excellent.

    An easy 8.125/10 from me

    No Sudden Move

The movie has lovely period detail and a great cast and a lovely twisty turny cat and mouse tale woven into some auto-industry dark history.

I am not sure if my struggle to follow plot-lines is a symptom of my slow neural deterioration or whether movies really are getting more convoluted. But it was all jolly good fun if you don't worry too much about the details. Nice to see erstwhile minor movie legend Ray Liotta showing that his screen presence has not diminished.

We need to see more of him.

    7.8/10
