Ok finished the other 2h of The Irishman,
I guess it's a true story as being old by an insider, so it has historical value
but it was boring shit at the end, this should have been entertainment, not a documentary

triple frontier
ex-special forces group goes to s. america for 'one last job'. a seemingly good cast, but overall a horrible movie...predictable, boring and loads of holes in the script.
i downloaded it when it came out about 6 months ago, and this morning when i scrolled upon it on my hard drive, i wondered why i never watched it. now i know why.
to be avoided.
Apollo 11
a splendid documentary with rare footage, some never seen, fully remastered in FULL HD, with no comments or interviews, but the original voice of the NASA flight commander and radio communications to run the whole operation,
it feels like being there, and NASA back then was quite the story teller for this great show
a must see, and the quality of footage feels like it has been shot yesterday in full FX HD
^
saw the trailer for that recently. thanks for the reminder.
it's amazing how the whole thing was run on tin toys
the sound of docking, and other equipment interacting says it all
not bad Cyrille, not bad
now go back to bed, it's past your bed time, you silly little fool
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
Expertly spun yarn. I did not know anything about the movie before I watched it so the Polanski/Tate/Manson backdrop was an unexpected surprise.
Normally when I find that a movie has biographical references I stop the movie and spend 15 minutes doing some homework on wikipedia (donated $25 this month) but in this case I had enough memory of the details already in my skull to go with the flow.
Beautifully crafted 60s detail and character studies and Tarantino still manages to wrong-foot you with what you expect will happen a couple of times.
Sharon Tate's feet need a good scrub too, the dirty little minx. Mmmmmm!
2 thumbs up.

6Underground!!!!
Begins with the best, longest and most horrendous action car chase in the history of film.
On Netflix 10/10
The Irishman is overrated. Why do so many worship at the altar of Scorcese? He should have retired long ago, hopefully this will make it official. 6/10, for minor historical interest.
Once Upon a Time- a welcome return to form for Tarantino, who's last few films have been pretty abysmal. This whimsical love story to Hollywood and the era hit the right buttons. 8.5/10- a bit slow in parts.
Blade Runner 2049. Exquisitely close to the original in cinematography and mood, but too bloody long. Should have got the editors on the job. Nice deadpan acting job by Ryan Gosling. 7.5/10, maybe a bit generous because I'm a blade runner fan.
The Cell- what a discombobulated mess. Don't bother. 4/10, for some worthy scenes amidst the train wreck.
King of Thieves. I preferred this gentle farce/ comedy of errors to the critics. An affable öne last heist movie, with a good cast. Based on the Hatton Garden heist. 7/10, for being likable and not too long. Michael Cain, Jim Broadbent, Ray Winstone- what's not to like?
yep, The Irishman was boring shit
Blade Runner 2049 was watchable, not entirely bad, but the original can still be watched with the same pleasure as it was first released
I watched it on the plane over last week...I watched it live in 1969 as well but seeing the capsule at Huntsville space museum was the shocker for me. Boy was it cramped in those 3 seats for the take-off and re-entry. It didn't seem any more sophisticated than a V bomber.
Loved the heart rate monitoring on take-off and then Neil Armstrong when going to manual during the lunar landing...a mere 151 ...
I enjoyed Official Secrets, about the US/UK shenanigans that led to the second Iraq war. It was interesting and more so because I have been out of the UK so long I only vaguely remembered it.
In Germany, the expat group I converse with talked about this a great deal. The minority believed it was a wrong move but had no conclusive proof for or against. Good to know our instincts were spot on. Well done that girl...yes I would have hidden behind the secrets act instead of doing the deed....
there is another moon documentary focusing on Armstrong told by Harrison Ford, a bit slow first 30min, but then a lot of good stuff and info coming in about the stressful life of astronauts, and Armstrong had all the 'good stuff' to run that first landing on the moon.
amazing shit, and showed Armstrong on a new light, his 2 sons in their late 40s also giving some interesting feedback
a must see, some footage are identical to the Apollo 11 documentary, and some are not
Yes Harry, I know ... review the films you have watched.
So call this a 'heads up'

This is a great thread, I've downloaded about 80gb of movies that I was pretty much unaware of. Still have to go over the first 100 pages. Thanks contributors.
Yes, it's a great opening scene, lengthy, but loads of fun.
At long last, somebody on here with taste!
Just watcher the first series of The Wtcher on Netflix - errrm, it's ok, but not particularly well done; surprised it's getting such high scores across the board because it really isn 't that good. It's a middle of the road Netflix offering that's worth watching in your free time = 7/10
Cycling should be banned!!!
finally watched last night - had high expectations.
It was well made, acted, 60s stuff etc but I dunno, I felt it was a bit of a hollywood insider smart-arse circle-jerk.
I didn't really connect with it - who cares about sharon tates stupid little dances and gee whizz visit to the cinema to watch herself, and di caprio bloated character with a career on the rocks cos he was stupid fat drunkard. And the precocious child 'actor', lsd dipped cigarettes, and the attention to detail of every cinema/ movie poster. wankety wank wank - I can see why the industry and the lackey critics loved it. They'll be tugging themselves (and each other) for years over every 'goddam scene'
I'll give it a 6/10 but tarantino should get out of the bubble and make something good.
Joker
I have renewed respect for the Marvel DC Comic mandarins for having the balls to put this supremely dark shit out under their unbearably predictable and dull franchise banner.
The first installment to connect in any meaningful way with the dark side of human nature I think.
Grizzly and gripping if grim performance from the star of the show.
