I will be kinda disappointed if it doesn't get any props during the upcoming awards season. BTW, Bradley Cooper was a producer of the film and had a bit part. If you need a big time actor in order to enjoy a film.

^^^^ Get onto 'Whiplash' if you like Miles Teller. His best film to date by a country mile(s).

    Hacksaw Ridge
    2016 ‧ Drama film/Action ‧ 2h 19m

The true story of Pfc. Desmond T. Doss (Andrew Garfield), who won the Congressional Medal of Honor despite refusing to bear arms during WWII on religious grounds. Doss was drafted and ostracized by fellow soldiers for his pacifist stance but went on to earn respect and adoration for his bravery, selflessness and compassion after he risked his life -- without firing a shot -- to save 75 men in the Battle of Okinawa.

    Arrival (2016).

Remember Interstellar? That self-indulgent, dragging, dreary, contrived Jonathan Nolan sci-fi piece with Matthew Mcwhatsisname?

Yeah, this was like that only worse.

    2/10.

(Yet amazingly on IMDB it gets an 8.4. That astonishes me).

Saw "Arrival". Disagree with harry. Excellent "thinking person" Sci-Fi without much in the way of special effects. Felt like a mystery, with a strong dose of current day dystopia. A criticism would be it drags at times, the movie could have easily been 15 minutes shorter.

It would have been overly long if it had been a short.

I completely get why some would not like it, but the 8.4 resonates as fair. The marketing of the movie was not misleading, nothing suggested it was going to be laser beams and space cowboy fight sequences.

I read some online reviews that really trashed it. With another day to think about it, saying it was just 15 minutes too long was an underestimate on my part. 20 minutes too long. Maybe 25. That criticism is on the mark.

For me the fact it was in general non-formulaic, and quirky, though, really hit the spot. Refreshing also to see a movie with a woman playing the lead role.

    4/5
The Road Home, with Zhang Ziyi is a film about a school teacher in a remote Chinese village. A story with beauty in its simplicity and still one of my favourites. The first movie I ever saw with Ziyi.
In another universe I am a young man and she is Lady cow. (Don't tell the current Lady Cow). Please excuse my sentimental indulgence.

    Solitary (2015).

This had so many awards attached to it I thought I'd give it a try. Turns out the awards were from things like the Portsmouth Film Festival.

Utter garbage, and little better than a hastily written Coronation Street episode.

The script appears to have been written by a 15 year old, the acting was straight out of the National Forest and the story wouldn't fill a postage stamp yet they padded it out to an hour and half or something.

    2/10

I need something decent to watch!

I don't think 4K would save it. In fact I don't think 8K would save it.

Somebody suggested I check out Whiplash (2014), if I wanted to see Miles Teller as a leading man, which I did. It turned out to be a revisit, as far as I was concerned, but I sat completely through it because of his performance as a prodigy drummer. And he played the part to perfection.

Masterminds based on a True Story 5/10 ,

    Full Review .
?Masterminds? Review: Relativity Caper Comedy Better Late Than Never | Variety

Parents need to know that Zach Galifianakis and Kristen Wiig star in Masterminds, a comedy based on the true story of one of America's largest bank thefts. The movie has relatively mild levels of sex, drinking, and language, but the violence played for laughs could concern parents. A hit man threatens several people; in funny but still scary scenes, he chases after a character, then imprisons him in a bathroom and says he'll slit his throat. In other scenes, a severed human ear drops from a handkerchief the hit man holds, and he shows off a bag of bloody human teeth. Guns are pulled and fired. No one gets shot, but in one scene a man is afraid he's shot himself in the behind (a woman examines him and references his "crack"). Characters fight, and a woman defeats a rival by pouring vaginal itch cream in her mouth. Language includes "ass," hell," "t-ts," "booty call," and more. One character is the butt of jokes based on her size, and a woman uses her sexual wiles to get a man to commit a crime. Characters who steal money get prison sentences, but one manages to hide some of his loot and isn't punished for it. Adults drink beer and cocktails; one character refers to being "buzzed, not drunk.

Watched it on Turkish add on Kodi .

^Started watching it last night, turned it off after 20 minutes, annoyingly dumb, juvenile and every character needs a good slap.
Supposed to be a comedic version of true events, but it's about as funny as a burning orphanage.

Serves me right for selecting any film with Owen Wilson in it.

    I watched Abre Los Ojos.

The original film with Eduardo Noriega and Penélope Cruz by Alejandro Amenabar. Filmed in Spain and all in Spanish (with subtitles).

Hollywood copied the movie and cast Cruz with Tom Cruise, calling it "Vanilla Sky."

About 95% of the movie is similar.

This original is worth watching. It was done very well, IMO.

    A creepy film.
