It was excellent, but as it related to British history, I would understand why you wouldn't like it.
Are we allowed to recommend the odd book here?

Good read - perfect for picking up for half an hour here and there. 500 pages devoted to taking the dissecting their history and totally taking the piss out of the French. What's not to like?Quote:

right, and yet England has become the very same place you describe above, and worse, so sparing didn't quite work after allQuote:

The French have a remarkable capacity for self delusion, the myth of French WW2 resistance is a good example. The Gestapo switchboard in Paris was overwhelmed with denunciations, France being probably the most collaborationist country occupied by the Germans.
You mustn't of course accuse them of cowardice - the French police were brave and fearless assisting the Gestapo in rounding up Jewish children to the Cirque d'Hiver in Paris for deportation to the concentration camps.
Battleship.
Slightly bobbins, totally predictable, too many clichés and a poor finale with the typical American ending.
The best parts are in th preview!!
4/10
Killed a couple of hours on some comfortable seats at Central though.
jesus, that sounds pretty badQuote:

I watched a very nice and compelling movie on the weekend.
'The descendants' staring george clooney who along with the rest of the cast delivered a stellar performance.
The owners of a large parcel of land must sell before the trust in which it is held dissolves, along with some parallel plots actually makes for excellent viewing.
^Yeah. I liked that as well.
^ I liked it too.
^ nice thread this, and Papillion gets beaten around like a bitch... :)
I'll watch the descendants today, so thanks for the suggestion (hope I haven't spoken too soon!).

Granted The Descendants wasn't a bad movie, but Oscar material? No chance.
There's a load of support for Gorgeous George to win Best Actor, but he simply needs to play a disabled, gay Jew and he'll be fine.
Just watched 'Act of Valor". I had read reviews of this movie, and they were pretty much on the mark. It's about Navy SEALS, with a spin, in that active duty SEALS play most of the parts in the movie. As expected, all of the action stuff is excellent - technically perfect. The acting, especially when there was no shooting going on, was pretty terrible. Still, for cool action stuff alone, 7/10.
Moneyball - after reading the book this was a disappointment in the extreme. although i am not a baseball fan i have liked some baseball films - 8 men out, field of dreams ( i know, i know ) bull durham, for the love of the game.
but this one, .. was dulll. for someone who didnt know the full story this was dull. for someone who did know, i cant imagine how bad it was. it was too long at over 2 hrs and frankly after an hour i was fast forwarding to get to the end.
6/10
Littlerock
Boy did I love this one. It's a Lost in Translation kind of story. A young Japanese bro and sis come to America. It's a simple film but something very nice about it.

I bought myself my first filipino movie, although its a 50/50 American and Philippine movie. A rather old movie - made in 1995. I tried to find a copy on the net to dl, but alas i went and bought it instead from amazon.
The acting isnt that great, very low budget, but it serves its purpose. 3/10.
Davis might be happy knowing this film was filmed in Batangas.
Closer to home movie directed by joseph nobile about Filipina teenager mailorder bride from the Philippines
^I'll get my wife to take a look for it.
Just watched two sports movies: Gleason and Newman in the pool hall movie "The Hustler". Still good after all these years. 8/10.
Clooney in "Leatherheads" about the beginning of American professional football. A strange role for Clooney, but an entertaining movie. 7/10.
