^A heart warming story presented with full emotion, thanks
Paris, Texas
Harry Dean Stanton
A snippet from IMDd
A man wanders out of the desert not knowing who he is. His brother finds him, and helps to pull his memory back of the life he led before he walked out on his wife and son four years before. As his memory returns, he makes contact with various people from his past.
Watched the other night and quite enjoyed it.
^ from the 80s isn't it ?
With Nastassia Kinski (Maria's lovers, Tess) a very beautiful actress who didn't have the success she deserves
^She was wonderful. See her in, 'One From the Heart' a classic from Francis Ford Coppola.
John Carter.
Unmitigated CRAP.
Marilyn. Looked to be a pretty good movie about Marilyn Monroe then, just as I was getting into it, it crapped out and quit working. I HATE THAT! Review later if I find a good copy. Fucking Chinese can't even copy/steal shit correctly.
The Hunger Games

Quite entertaining if your willing to leave your brain in neutral. A bunch of kids are selected to fight it out to the last man or woman as part of a games ritual. Sounds lame and it is but the action is well done. Watch out for the scenes stolen from better movies such as "The Pianist", "The Running Man" etc etc.
5/10
Wife and kids were gone today, so I sat down to watch "The Artist". I tried - I really did. I kept waiting for it to reach out and grab me - for the light to come shining through. Never happened. Meaningless and boring. Oh well, at least I took my plebeian tastes out for a brief walk on the other side. Back to beer and war movies...
Is it true that this is essentially Battle Royale with a love story?

You can find brill copies of movies in Malaysia, Burma, Thailand - all done by the chinese.
As for the copies on the streets in the Philippines. Always miss labelled, cam's when the R5's are out.
Why dont you ask to view it 1st before you buy it and fast forward the movie. If it stops while viewing, dont buy.
^Place where my wife gets movies was between raids at the time she was there. No time to preview. Just a grab and go. Place is usually pretty good; use the same little Muslim gal all the time. If a copy is ever bad, she will exchange it the next time you're there. Still irritating when it happens 1/2 way through though.
Oh i noticed that too in Cebu/Tarlac. Muslims selling copy dvd and porn. Why the Muslims eh?
^My company works primarily on IPR anti-counterfeiting operations. Doesn't matter if it is counterfeit perfume, drugs, handbags, software, movies, clothes - if it's counterfeit in the Philippines, it is either run by Chinese or Filipino Muslims, almost without exception. And I've been doing this over a decade, so have a pretty good track record to back-up that statement.
Where as on old VHS tapes in UK, the message that was shown before the movie said the piracy funds terrorism. [drugs/guns]. Would you think that Muslims doing this business is funding money for their own state in Mindanao?
I never thought of it till now.
I am quite certain that a percentage of the profits goes towards that end.
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011)
got to watch that famous movie, not so "extraordinary" like a few mindless fools were falling themselves over, as it was some kind of revelation
still entertaining, Smiley was very good, a lot of good actors that we didn't get to see more, and the plot was basic but well structured
and I got the right guy within 5min of the movie :p

^A bit surprised by your review. I have read the book, as I have most of his stuff. I think had one not read the book first, it would have been quite confusing. I found it to be a dreary, slow movie - I was really hoping for much more.
I knew what the story was about roughly, a mole in MI6, again nothing extraordinary as a plot. But it was well executed.Quote:

maybe the book was more interesting, with more details, so the movie looked boring and dreadful. I might read the book next, maybe the action is better depicted.
^Also quite possible I bought into the hype, and expected more than I should have.
absolutely, that's why I always wait for those kind of movies, the heavy promotion will just distort their realityQuote:

Southland Tales.
An alternate-reality, modern-day, dystopia sci-fi, black comedy. Cast of well-known actors combine with excellent performances in a movie that has no idea what story its actually trying to tell. It's like Inception. If you don't keep up, you'll get lost. Half-way through the movie you'll want to go back to replay the first 20 minutes of dialogue just to make sure you're understanding it right.
I think the best way to enjoy this movie would be to start watching it sober for the intrigue and twists, then neck a bottle of vodka half way through to enjoy the Moby sound-tracked weirdness that follows.
It's like a modern day Dr. Strangelove with more contemporary observations on America's current/future wars and Patriot Act.
It's difficult to rate this. There's loads of things wrong with this movie, but there's something that resonates.
^That flick is all over the place. It definitely has an LA feel to it, if not necessarily in a good way.
