Gotta say I thought Taken was a fantastic ACTION movie.
I watched it not knowing anything about the movie and was blown away at what a good action hero Liam Neeson was,Some of the fight scenes and dialogue were fantastic,Yes it's unrealistic but only in the same sense as a James Bond movie.

8/10 you've got to be kidding!! The action was the only good bit. The story was dire.

It was kind of ok at first, just some inconsistencies, like how did he find the flat etc, finding the girl on smack and having all the gear to detox her in hours, but then he walks into the middle of the Albanian gang hideout on his own pretending to be a French policeman with his ridiculous Irish/American accent and kills all of
them, then he breaks in to a policemans house and shoots his wife and beats up the cop, then goes on the rampage kills a top politician and his staff and kills an Arab sheik and his entourage, to rescue his daughter.
Then cut to quick ending, he's back in the US with his daughter coming through the airport.
He's just kiilled about 40 people in France, and nothing happened to him, we didn't even see how him managed to extracate himself from that mess. No questions asked.
And the outcome is.. his daughter now loves him and his ex-wife respects him, end of story..
You have to wonder, did he set the whole kidnapping up, just because the step-father bought her a new pony, and his personal karoake present didn't quite cut it.
Good action, but if I ever see Niam Leeson I'm gonna give him a ruddy good kick in the crackers for that pile of poo.

Ok, without the rant. 8/10, no way. It wasn't on a par with the Die Hard or Bourne Identity movies, which I would rate as 8/10.
Some people take films too seriously. Taken was a decent action movie, with emphasis on "movie" not documentary! In all films you have to accept a certain amount of artistic license, and if you analyse every plot you'll find there are holes them it the size of the Pacific.
I would give Taken a decent 7/10.
The new one he's in though, Unknown, is a pile of poo, and IMHO has no redeeming qualities at all.

I downloaded Unknown and I've poked at it with a shitty stick, but not sure about watching it or just binning it.. same with Hanna.. thoughts on that?

If your looking at turd alert action movies go see any of the latest Van damme,The Rocks or Nicholas Cage shite and you will raise your rating in an instant.
Gonna watch the Unknown tonight,Gotta feeling its the same as Taken but without the shocks or excitment.

The only interesting point about this, is the fact that its a true story and the fact that it has some tasty stars in it including
Robert Duvell and Bill Murray.
There was a hick back in the day who was hated by most and lived out in a shack by himself.... He decides to throw a party for his own funeral where everyone is invited to come....Including himself.
The movie had potential but it never really picks up momentum and at around the 45mins minute mark seems to get even slower.
Good idea for a movie,bad screen play.

Worst thing about Taken was the actress who played the "kidnapped" daughter. She was so whiney that I was hoping one of the baddies would put her out of our misery. Plus Neeson is a fuckin OAP so his antics were laughable.

rottentomatoes.com IMO is the best site for movie reviews by critics. The critics rate Taken at 58% whilst the viewers rate it at 83%. I'm with the critics on this one, not my cup of tea, but neither is action. I mean, what do you expect when you watch an action movie? realism? how many holes are in Lord of The Rings??Quote:

I watched 'Animal Kingdom' last night after reading about it in this thread - never heard of it before. Great movie that was trying to be realistic, but had one massive flaw that annoyed me - when the girl dies and is dumped in the back, it's dismissed in court as she OD'd. But what about the body being dumped out the back? Drama movies can be outrageous but shouldn't have massive flaws like this. 6/10, possible 8 with a bit better screen writing.
This one got 97% from critics and 80% from audience on rotten tomatoes.

I think the sub captain is meant to be a Baltic native (Lithuanian or something) anyway, so that is some excuse. Tim Curry's Russian in "Red October" is excellent. Connery's Japanese in "Rising Sun" was as crap as the rest of the movie, although it was definitely good for a laugh.Quote:

Finally got around to The Lincoln Lawyer. As a Connelly reader, I thought they did an excellent job. I was hooked when I heard Bobby Blue Bland's "Ain't No Love In The Heart Of The City" playing over the opening credits.
Solid cast, save for the rather plain villain. Very entertaining, with an almost retro "Rockford Files" type feel to it.
Two fine Don Siegel films on cable this month; Invasion of the Body Snatchers and Hell is for Heroes. One of Hollywood's best directors of the mid 20th century.

^ I also recommend Two Mules for Sister Sara and Escape From Alcatraz. A rare cameo of Don himself playing the bartender in Play Misty For Me directed by Clint Eastwood. Siegel was Eastwood's mentor.
I went back and revisited "Play Misty For Me" late last year. I remember it being a really creepy and intense film. However, now it looks rather dated and jaded (mind you, I suppose so do I).Quote:
