Review the last film you watched

Triangle - group of travelers travel on a sailboat for a day of fun. Sh*te hits the fan and they end up capsized by a weird storm. Anyways low and behold a cruise boat comes along which seems to be abandoned and the survivors board. Needless to say mayhem ensues and one by one they are picked off by an unknown on the ship. Basically interesting premise... I don't want to ruin it, but it was rather creative. Only star recognized was Melissa George. 7/10

Time Traveler's Wife - very mushy chick flick. Basically a lad shifts back/forth through his own time line and has no control of when he shifts. He meets a young lady who he will end up marrying in the future. Not a bad flick for this sort of movie. 7/10

The Book of Eli

Futuristic western where Denzel Washington plays a good cowboy who has the task of preserving something in a world that has been scorched from war.

6.5/10

^ Saw that about a month ago. Good twist, but not something you could watch again. I'd probably give it about the same as you - 6ish out of 10.

"Precious: Based on the novel 'Push' by Sapphire".

Quite an extraordinary film, with some great performances. Gabourey Sidibe as the grossly overweight, sexually and physically abused black teenager, and Mo’Nique as her mother. They're nominated for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress respectively for this year's Oscars. It also features a couple of minor roles by Mariah Carey and Lenny Kravitz.

Pretty hard hitting story line, and not the emotionally squeamish.

Capitalism, A Love Story

michael moores take on the financial collapse. I'm never sure about all the facts and opinions in his movies but he always makes a dull seeming subject watchable and entertaining with a splash of stuff to think about.

There's a couple of parts which to be honest are quite shocking, look for the part where companies are Insuring their employees for a nasty reason

I watched this in a few sittings as the kids have been on a mission to distract me from anything I fancy doing alone so i think it's about 2 hrs long

'The boy in the striped pyjamas'

A young boy in Hitler's Germany is the son of a highly decorated soldier. Following his father's promotion, the family go to live 'in the country' for the father's new job. You soon realise that the father is the commandant of a death camp. The son is the only one who doesn't realise it (the realisation takes its toll on the other family members in differing ways).

The son makes friends with a Jewish boy his own age through the fence of the camp, which he believes to be a farm.

Thought provoking with a horrific (if totally implausible) ending.

Did me too, its hard to understand how some of these companies can treat employees that way.

"The Hurt Locker"- it was OK, but I'm a bit confused by all the Oscar buzz- it wasn't THAT good.

I think it's the formulaic name - the jury liked saying 'The Hurt Locker' (in that traileresque American extra drawn out, sitting on the toilet passing an exceptionally large turd accent) because they thought it sounded cool, so they needed to come up with a reason they could say it often.

"Tyson" was quite good- the guy was surprisingly articulate and honest- I liked him more after watching it (though I wouldn't wanna share a cell with the guy).

Haven't seen it yet, still downloading. However, I have seen most of the Oscar nominations for this year, in terms of Best Film, and also best individual performances. Of those I've seen, certainly Jeff Bridges (in 'Crazy Heart'), and Gabourey Sidebe (in 'Precious') for both verbal and character acting, are outstanding. My personal preference for best film would also be between one of those two.

I just watched "The Fantastic Mr. fox" it is a weird one for sure, cannot find a lot out about it, but it sounds like George Clooney doing the voice, it is worth a look, but obviously, as an animation, will not be everyones cup of tea!

my sister asked me to get that before Christmas. i said fair enough. thankfully we sort of went our different ways and then the film came out. had a look at it and it looked terrible. i can watch Morph, but this crap, no.

Shutter Island

A government marshal is sent to an isolated island to investigate the disappearance of a patient from a high security psychiatric hospital. I won't spoil it by giving away the plot. Stars Leonardo Di Carpio doing some serious acting for a change.

Worth a watch. 7/10

Reign over me was recommended on this thread so I downloaded it. Very good movie - 8/10.

Watched it this afternoon. Certainly interesting, with more than a few twists and turns to the plot. Not an epic by any means, but definitely worth watching. Good performance by Ben Kingsley as the unit's doctor also.

the hurt locker

it certainly didnt live up to the hype for me, typical american war movie, stereotypical macho lantern jawed us soldiers shouting and saying fuck a lot, sweating testosterone, and defusing bombs. nothing more to it.

the inglorious basterds

delicious fantasy plot with some excellent set pieces, wonderful dialogue and an oscar winning performance by an austrian actor, cant recall his name, who plays a nazi officer hunting down jews in occupied france.

Unfortunately, the version I watched was the same, though the quality wasn't 'too' bad, and the audio was OK. Would love to watch a DVD version, but given the film isn't released to cinema until the 12th March, not going to happen until later. Probably like most, Pirate Bay is my principle source.

I finally downloaded and watched this one yesterday myself... Agree with your synopsis and rating... Typical Quentin Tarantino plot twists and visuals keep you interested until the credits roll...

If you like psychological thrillers, then I'd recommend Identity (2003) with John Cusack, Alfred Molina and Ray Liotta.

Brilliantly done and great ending.

I watched the OK-ish cam copy of Shutter Island and it's a good movie. 6.5/10
