I just watched that 1995 or so movie "SEXY BEAST" Kingsley plays a complete fucking phsyco...it again is worth a look, but nothing to write home about.
The other one, again an old movie but worth dragging up as we seem to have a bit of a void in GOOD movies...is "The Client" Tommy Lee Jones...

Sexy Beast is from 2000, a fine movie IMO, a must for british gangster movie fans, and Ben Kingsley's Oscar-nominated performance as Don Logan is indeed something to write home about. One of the best gangsters in movie history I reckon.Quote:

Ben Kingsley got a lot of accolades for "Sexy Beast," but I think Ian McShane's character, Teddy Bass, is just as memorable. It was that which led to McShane being cast as Al Swearengen in "Deadwood," I bet. "Deadwood" is a series I'd bet a lot of TD members would enjoy.
The Marine II
Filmed in southern Thailand, I think it was supposed to be set in the Phillipines. Made by the same people who bring you pro wrestling. Bad script, illogical plot, bland characters, crap acting and a bit of patriotic flag-waving. It's entertainment for prepubescent teens & Fox news fans.
It was OK. The production was more BBC sitcom than Hollywood movie, which I suppose is better in many ways.Quote:

I watched Law Abiding Citizen the other evening. I think this must be the first Hollywood movie with a sad ending, where the bad guy wins. I'll say no more, except that it was a solid 6 out of 10.

Sherlock Holmes - Likable main characters. First in a series designed to make gazillions for a Hollywood production company. Sad that movies have been reduced to formulas like this. Having said that, the film is well made and entertaining.
Have a look for yourself FP..u may like it, I was recommended it by someone who thought it wa a great watch..personally not my cup of char..really fucking gloomy and only about 1hr 20 mins long..hate short films.Quote:

A Serious Man
The Coen brothers latest vehicle, about a jewish teacher who's going through a run of bad luck (marital problems, work etc) and starts to question what life is all about through conversations with various rabbies.
Pretencious filmmaking and if you thought No Country For Old Men had a strange ending this ones even more weird. 4/10
The Men Who Stare at Goats
Solid performances by Mcgregor, Bridges, Spacey and especially Clooney, quite funny at times but left me with a 'meh' feeling. 6.5/10
Invictus
Another superb effort from Clint Eastwood. Freeman and Damon are very convincing as Mandela and Pienaar. I remember watching the '95 world cup final at the time and feeling disappointed for the All Blacks and Jonah Lomu for missing out after dominating the tournament. Knowing now what that win did for unifying South Africa I'm glad that they won. 8.5/10
Sherlock Holmes
Very entertaining movie by Guy Ritchie whom I'd pretty much written off after Rock 'n Rolla. Nice to see he's got more up his sleeve than Lock Stock/Snatch.
Great chemistry between Law and Downey jr (whom I think is one of the best actors on the planet). Great mix of action, comedy and drama. I'm looking forward to more instalments of this franchise. 8.5/10
Up In The Air
Starring George Clooney again as a guy who works for a company that are contracted to fire people from their jobs. Good performances from all the leading actors, however the story/script left me a bit disappointed. 7/10
"Rock 'n Rolla" was ok IMO, maybe you should give it another try
the scenes with the Russians was ace,
I think I've watched it about 3 times already and still think it's a pale immitation of his earlier work. Use the same recipe for too long and it becomes boring.
Glad he's proved with Sherlock Holmes that he's not a one trick pony though, it's great entertainment.:chitown:
Sherlock Holmes
I've tried twice to make it through the first half hour and have fallen asleep. Recasting Sherlock Holmes as an action hero/buddy flick franchise is utterly predictable, I can't be bothered. I find Ritchie's films to be charmless and unbearable, this one was of a kind.
Armored - a bit of a waste of a very talented cast.
