Watched that last night. Movie started well but early on I got the impression it was gonna turn into the usual 'Humans are bad' PC, tree-hugging, Speilburgh E.T inspired magical aliens that can't die, BS. Which it did. It had potential. At the end of the movie I was left thinking the budget for actors/effects e.t.c would have been better spent on a good old stupid, wonton violence, arrogant mankind vs some kickarse aliens war movie.Quote:

Remember back when movies inspired video games, not the other way around as they do now. Mark Walhberg and that hot annoying chick from the 'That 70's Show' star in an average action flick. Very dark movie, in settings and lighting, not in plot. Watch throught the end credits and there's a bit at the end that suggests a sequel.

I liked the first part better, the second one just got more stupid and the plot even more predictable and silly. Of course it doesn't pretend to be anything else than a simple action/sci-fi movie but the plot was just a bit too much to bear and some scenes were just too long to enjoy (the getting drunk in love scene for ex.)Quote:

Eastwood playing an old, embittered veteran and racist who lives in a part of town that is increasingly taken over by immigrants.
Really enjoyed the movie, not much to add, great actors, a true gem!

Full of flaws and very far fetched, they really went overkill with the cliches, primal screams and baddies, and other silly 'mutants', I guess they figured they may only have one shot at this 'origins' concept. I'm glad I saw a post production copy, Hugh Jackman has gone down in my estimation, he needs cables to move his arms when he runs! I don't know why I expected this to be good, got suckered in by the hype I guess.
OK, mini reviews:
The Bucket List - Morgan Freeman, Jack Nicholson: Finally got around to watching it all. Freeman plays a car mechanic who knows all the answers to 'Jeopardy', Nicholson a billionaire who buys hospitals and makes them profit. They meet in hospital where both are undergoing treatment for terminal cancer. They make a list of things to do before they kick the bucket and go off on a jaunt together... Loved it. Cried 'buckets' at the end with the 'Chock full of nuts' cans. 9.5/10
The Changeling - Angelina Jolie, John Malkovich: Based on the true story of Christine Collins and her missing son, Walter in the late 20's and early 30's. Slow start, but picks up pace near the middle. What the LAPD did to her and other women who were inconvenient to them defies belief, as does their (LAPD) ineptness. Sickening death row scene which intentionally mimics an earlier scene. Sometimes thought Jolie overacted, but in all, a very good film. 8/10
Hamlet 2 - Steve Coogan, David Arquette, Elizabeth Shue: High school drama teacher tries to inspire his class by writing a sequel to Hamlet and putting on a production. It's supposed to be a comedy (which is why I bought it), but either I've had a SOH bypass or it's the most unfunny crud ever written. Absolutely dire. Root canal work without anaesthetic would be preferable to watching this again 0/10
Star Trek (2009) JJ Abraham's reboot of the classic scifi series. Must admit I loved the movie and I think it was the best out of the star trek movies that were made to date. Basicially you get the origins on how the famous crew met one another from early starfleet academy, not to mention due to going back in time plot - gives Abrahams the ability to change the dynamic and gives him creative license in this story to change things and of course in future adventures. 9/10 GO SEE IT!!!

To be fair to Butterfly I generally avoid movies that Brit recommends. They're always of the Steven Seagull, action, no plot, wooden actors, genre. Why should this be any different ?
