Review the last film you watched

"The Reader" With Ralph Fiennes, and Kate Winslett.
Won a few Oscars apparently. Apart from the shagging, I thought it was boring, tbh. Kate's lovely tits were once the only reason to fast forward through "Titanic", what seems like only a few years ago. Alas, a couple of sprogs later, her once-magnificent gravity-defying globes are now like Spaniel's ears...:( Her arse is also succumbing to gravity's inevitable pull. Pretty brave of her to go all out naked and do the sex scenes without a body double, imo. Worth an Oscar probly, but the "Best Supporting..." gong should have gone to her underwear.:mid:

Heartbreak Kid - A newlywed man who believes he's just gotten hitched to the perfect woman encounters another lady on his honeymoon. 7/10 Another Farrelly Brother's comedy - this time starring Ben Stiller and the bird from the Watchmen. (naked lot of the movie)

The Day After

Oldies on this forum will remember this 80's tv movie about the build-up to and actual event of a massive nuclear exchange. It looks dated and some of the dialouge is dire. The storyline is still as good as it ever was, which, erm, wasn't that bad considering it was a tv movie.

Mike Enslin (Cusack) is a skeptic and author who debunks supernatural occurrences after the untimely death of his daughter Katie. After his latest successful book, he receives an anonymous postcard of the Dolphin Hotel in New York City bearing the message "don't enter 1408."

He books himself into the room after the hotel objects then the strangeness unfolds.

Large parts of the movie are just Cusack in the room, 1h 45, made me jump the odd time and on the whole not too bad.

You were watching 'The Reader' to see Kate Winslet's body? No wonder you were disappointed with a fine film. You must have missed all the plot & dialogue waiting for tit, ass or beaver shots. Next time, I recommend you stick to the 'Debbie does' series. You won't be disappointed. :p

Crap film. The novella by Stephen King is far better.

Five Minutes Of Heaven - Liam Neeson James Nesbitt

A story of 2 people connected with a killing in the Northern Ireland troubles. Neesons character killed the elder brother of Nesbitt's character when he was 17 and through a foundation the 2 are set to meet for a documentary in the present day.

Theres plenty of films about Northern Ireland but this one is slightly different as its a look at what happened 20 or so years after the incident and doesnt really give a whos right and whos wrong portrait.

The crew shooting the documentary are on the face very helpful, giving Nesbitt a room to relax in before he meets his brothers killer but they turn out to be a pain in the arse. Bit of a slap for some documnetary types I guess.

I like indie films and this was good to watch. 1h 20.

Rambo: first blood.

John Rambo refuses to obey a local police officier and then goes OTT in a small town. I first saw this movie as a young 'un and got the story that Rambo was a hero unjustly hassled by the powers that be. Now it looks more like he was a bit of dickhead. Got the next movie lined up, hopefully it doesn't dissapoint with age.

Taking Chance - Kevin Bacon

Based on real-life events, Lt. Col. Michael Strobl, a volunteer military escort officer, accompanies the body of 19-year-old Marine Chance Phelps back to his hometown of Dubois, Wyoming

Lots of emotional strings and piano style music in this film. I was interested to see this as it is based on the notes of the actual event rather than some made up tosh. Kevin Bacon does well and on the whole 1h 15 mins insight into something I didnt know happened.

19 years old, what a waste.

Rambo: First Blood Part II.

Once again Rambo doesn't listen and disobeys orders. A step up in violence and budget from the original.

Frost/Nixon

I enjoyed this one about David Frost's series of interviews with former President Richard Nixon. I thought all the cast performed extremely well and for a political themed movie it didn't stall or get tedious.

Notorious

Follows the rise of the 90's rap icon Biggie Smalls aka The Notorious B.I.G.
This got muddled and confusing in parts while trying to cram in too many plot points to a short time frame. Direction was poor.

I watched, 'The Knowing,' tonight on the big screen. Nick Cages new action-thriller is far out. The ending will leave you in awe. A little over the top to say the least. Aliens really do exist according to this film.

The premise is great. A professor (Nick Cage) stumbles on terrifying predictions about the futureand and sets out to prevent them from coming true. In 1959, as part of the dedication ceremony for a new elementary school, a group of students is asked to draw pictures to be stored in a time capsule. But one mysterious girl fills her sheet of paper with rows of apparently random numbers instead.

Fifty years later, a new generation of students examines the capsules contents and the girls cryptic message ends up in the hands of young Caleb Koestler. But it is Calebs father, professor John Koestler (Nicolas Cage), who makes the startling discovery that the encoded message predicts with pinpoint accuracy the dates, death tolls and coordinates of every major disaster of the past 50 years. As John further unravels the documents chilling secrets, he realizes the document foretells three additional eventsthe last of which hints at destruction on a global scale and seems to somehow involve John and his son.

I thought the movie was exciting, and suspenseful in many parts. The special effects are really awesome. The ending was a bit disappointing though. I won't give it away. I like how they bring in the paranormal here, and make use of prophesies that come true. Is life a series of random acts, or a matter of destiny where we are the main actors in fulfilling our own pre-determined destiny?

Dances With Wolves (directors cut)

Kevin Costner plays Kevin Costner, a soldier sent to the wild frontier to fight the local Indians. Cunning Kevin employs his deadly new tactics of boring them to death in this 4 hour 'epic' movie. This movie won some oscars apparently. I think maybe the wolf might have got one for best supporting actor(non-human).

The Knowing

Nick Cages stars in his latest pile of crap. The ending was so obvious even a 4 year old could tell what was going to happen after only 30 mins into the film.

Unless you're the brain of an elk, give it a miss. 'R' rated for retards.

"Henry. Portrait Of A Serial Killer". Disturbing, supposedly loosely based on a true-life account of serial murderer Henry Lee Lucas.
The film originally had some problems with distribution and rating, due to some of the brutal images and scenes in the original cut of the movie which were removed. Now back in the new dvd edition.
A fantastic performance by Michael Rooker as Henry. A pretty disturbing and dark film all told. 9/10.

Hellboy II

Bad Movie, great visuals. If you're able to return to your days as a kid, turn off your brain and enjoy the funny pictures you'll like it.

I like the Hellboy movies, they don't try to be anything their not and they are well cast enjoyable characters.
