"bad" hardrive from 2010. Any new fixes ?

I have a hardrive with a treasure trove of Thailand trip pics on it that went bad. Computer geeks told me years ago , that it would cost a bit to lift the data out of it.

But I was wondering if some new product hasn't come out to make this easier. I have another drive that I'm looking at right now. Successfully hooked it up.

Will post an LB pic later

I've got a windows XP computer from the about same year that is totally knackered.
Kept it because of my pics and vids on it, how I'll retrieve them is a mystery coz it's all zeros and ones when I last fired it up.
Think lack of memory and storage might have been the issue.

Yeah I just wonder if it's maybe easier and cheaper to fix now.
For my hardrive , if I get a computer shop to get the data , they will see my dirty lifestyle I guess

I didn't want to fix this hardrive before. The past is past. But I am in full blown nostalgia mode now so I want to see them. There will be some fun stuff to post on here too

Buy an identical (working) hardrive and swap the platters from the dead one into it.

    ^ I agree.

Preferably get someone who really knows what they are doing. In a dust-free room.

When I had a similar problem years back (external) someone suggested to wrap it airtight in a plastic bag, put in freezer, which could give enough minutes of life to lift some data. Well it did, and then went for a dive in Pattaya Bay; there you go sqwiril/monkeyman/other nuts, environmental terrorism.

Tip: After every blackout I use run Chkdsk; there are probably better yoots now but I was weaned on that. I don't know how it works but a nerd friend told me it checks and notifies the system about bad sectors to prevent it from trying to access them, which can lead to further problems.

I'd start by getting an external hd shell to put it in and see if you can read data. I have two different versions of external for old and very old drives. All mine were readable even though I thought they would fail to spin up.

I offer "special" support to "special" customers. Especially when they have "special" needs.
