I interpret it as she's thinking you could have fed 6 dogs for a year for the price of that! Or bought her a new tablet!

Can you take a picture of the maps display when you've inputted a route and are about to set off, please. I ask as I have more icons info which tends to clutter my phone display especially in the horizontal mode.

Or maybe there's a way of selectively turning the standard screen info icons off?

I tested out the Google Maps display driving down to Khao Yai today. I've had some problems to be honest and the first 25 minutes of our journey was spent swearing at the Google woman while we sat in the drive. She doesn't seem to get mt accent. The wife and daughter eventually went to wait in the house.

Should I be using the 'Hotspot' thingy or the 'Tethering' thingy on my phone...? That's one thing I'm not sure about.

After talking into this 'head unit' for bladdy ages... saying 'hey Google, navigate to...' I eventually gave up. Google Maps on the phone would kick in, but not on the new unit. I could have got some new Bluetack to mount the phone as previously, but that would have been admitting defeat.

Eventually I figured out how to type in the destination on the head unit, and from then in it worked like a charm.

Oh Oh, can't do pics now, but noticed nothing different to usual re. icons in navigating mode... maybe it's down to your Google settings?

Just turn on blue tooth on your phone, it and the new unit will sync and off you go.. Funny though you sure the Thai technicians turned the language back to English after testing?

Good on you for figuring out how to type it.

    No bluetack need Mendip.

Think this might go down as a bogon tip #741

I've got one of these for the motor

Magnetic. The holder clips into an air vent and a magnet on the back of your phone case.

    Wow...

I wish I could do this multi quote thing.

    In no particular order...

No SIM card slot that I can see... I was trying to say Pak Chong in a Thai accent, that's what Google didn't like. (is there really a place called Pakwong in China?). I typed it in eventually... and anyhow, how dya say Pak Chong in Glaswegian? (Pak Chong yee coont..???)

Also, re #741, I always thought magnets were bad for computers? Aren't they used to wipe hard drives?

Also, the gardener gets a lot more than 113 Bt a day, and that's without breakfast... or anything else for that matter... before any rumours start.

    And Dipper??? Wtf?

Anyhow; what's the difference between Hotspit and Tethering?

    Good stuff.

hotspot is where a device with both GSM/sim data connection and wifi creates a wifi hotspot to which you can connect other wifi devices and give them internet access - so you could put your phone in hotspot mode and connect your car tablet to it via wifi and have internet access

tethering is when you use a leash - in the case of phones etc this is normally a USB cable , though in the distant past bluetooth was also used

Thanks Baldrick... so it's hotspot I should be using.

So I can stop with the bluetooth tethering attempts now!

Something you may or may not want to pursue:

Get your daughter to connect them/sort the problem out, she does look amused at your antics, in the photo. She or her google skills will fix it in a jiffy.

I gave up this stuff and relied on my kids years ago.

^ It's certainly getting that way. The kids soak up all this stuff like a sponge... I'm worried I'll break something.

And... not the best photo but once in navigating mode... no icons in the way. There seem to be a lot of icons in normal mode, but it zooms in once Google starts navigating and all's OK. In fact I can't believe how good Google is... it guided me along a new section of road in Korat today that's only been open a month or two.

OH Yeah, If Pops is stepping up to the new Tech, Kids are always impressed. In fact, she may be your biggest single source of info on how to use it as she watches you mess it all up.

btw....Speakers are in order unless you want to go into your equalizer settings and take all the bass out and lower the treble. But then whats the point. Good speakers are cheap.

Here is my set up. Its a 10" Android based set up. I WiFI hotspot link when I want to use Google Maps. I custom made a phone holder from some parts here and parts I brought from the states(Basically put the wireless charging Hoco head on an adjustable cup holder mount). Works outstanding and no cords laying all over the place and I do not need to plug a charge cable into my phone. I use BT for the phone and if I want to use Spotify.

    I have 4 music sources.
    1) The radio in the head,
    2) One USB port (Factory Toyota) where I have a specific genre of music,
    3) Another USB port from the head unit where I have another mini USB drive with another genre of music,
    4) Spotify through my tele.

I guess you could say 5 if want to include YouTube being you can hotspot and watch Music Vids from your personal play list. Voice command is outstanding but you have to speak clear.

I am so happy I dumped the factory Revo set up. It was really lack luster, the Nav was worthless. I plan on an Amp soon.

    Enjoy the new set up.

    Nice set-up.

I love my wireless charge phone holder.... having cables dangling around drive me bonkers.
