To some that's a problem, one has to spend at least 10,000THB to gain any street cred, which to some is the own reason for buying anything.

You think sticking a 10k head unit in that cab stinking of soi dog will gain street cred?

Many thanks for all the suggestions...

In the end I thought 'bollox' to it, and today took it to a car place in Korat opposite The Mall (thanks Nev) and spoiled meself. I spend over 3 hours a day in that damn car on school days and am sick of trying to hear the radio on my phone.

While me and the daughter headed off to The Mall, they stuck in this head unit that I can pair my phone to and use to play audio from my phone through the car speakers.

I noticed that while fitting it, they had also removed my two lumps of Bluetack from the dashboard which was slightly annoying as I use them to stick my phone to when using Google maps for satnav. But all was OK...
they didn't really do anything as basic as I was after, and this thing also has Android and a load of apps on it. I can 'cast' my phone onto it? Hotspot... I think? and then use it to display Google maps on. I now also have to learn how to drive at 120km/hr while watching videos on Youtube. Anything seems possible with this!

    Looks good, too!

I tested out the radio through BBC Sounds and it comes through loud and clear. This will be perfect for the Shipping Forecast and Dad's Army episodes during the morning school run and the Radio Bristol phone in during the afternoon run. Not to mention unlimited 80s compilations on Spotify. In fact I'm almost looking forward to next Wednesday when my daughter goes back to school!

    All this for 4900 Baht!

Never heard of the make, mind...

Does the screen go off to stop you watching vids after 10kmh? Or did you tell him not to plug that wire in?

There are many free apps with UK radio stations. I listen to Heart FM from Exeter regularly.

BBC Sounds app gives all BBC radio stations and a load of podcasts... even 2000 odd episodes of Desert Island Discs for example. From what I gather it uses very small data transfer as well if you're on 4G.

I use the BBC iplayer at home for watching tv, but you need a VPN for that. You also need a VPN for live sports coverage on Radio 5.

I looked for the app on Google Play Store but it didn't even show up! Maybe it's blocked in Thailand.

Cheers, Dill. I've downloaded it and I'm seeing what's available now.

Cheers, PAG. I've just downloaded another one (Online World Radio). Only a 2MB app, but lots of choice for stations, easy to use and switches between radio stations really quickly.

    Bogon Tip#824

I have a Kenwood head unit that cuts off the video as soon as I take off the handbrake whilst the TV in the back for the kids still plays.

Pop-out the unit and cut the green wire, and the screen on the head unit doesn't cut off when you drive.

    God bless youtube.

I have no idea if the video turns off when you start driving... I'm still getting to grips with this thing and am still testing it out in the drive, while stationary! I'm just starting to realise what I've bought...

It's not probably obvious from this picture, but I'm looking at Google Maps (I can actually sign in to Google on this thing) while listening to 'Don't You Want Me' by The Human League at top volume on Spotify... and it's all on the internet via my phone. I should have got one years ago.

But... the speakers are all buzzy. Maybe I shouldn't have bladdy started?

A big upshot... the daughter thinks I'm well cool!

(At least that's how I'm interpreting that look, anyway.)

Oh, ^ and thanks Betty. That one is on my favourite compilation!
