Led Zeppelin at 50: Good Times Bad Times

“They had the poser frontman, the ultra-cool lead guitarist, the heavy nutcase drummer – all the cliches,” Slade’s Noddy Holder once said.
The thing is, the band he was talking about, Led Zeppelin, created the cliches themselves.

Trashed hotel rooms, orgies, booze binges, drugs, a reputation for violence, underage inamoratas, groupies, heavy metal, headbanging, stadium rock, Tolkien references, godlike status, dabbling with the occult... oh, and how to go from rock to staggering riches.

Led Zeppelin did it all, and then some. Half a century ago.

    ---

    I never saw them.

    Any memories out there?

Does the song remain the same?
Someone is sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago ...

Never liked that phoney US accent Plant speaks and sings with.

    Undoubtedly very talented musicians, though.

Zep, Stones, Floyd. Every time I save a new playlist to Flashdrive for the car these 3 bands make up at least 50% of the folder. Kanye West consistently gets 0%.

Bonham was the man. Other drummers all rate him as rock's best ever sticksman.

Drove a Ford Pickup over the Rockies one summers night in '77 to see them in Seattle. Hairy drives, we were stoned then, the next day and for the return daylight crossing.

The Bonham boy beats the skins as well as his dad, RIP.

An apt report of the evening:

I remember putting Led Zep 1 on my Dad's stereo in his study, ( he had some nice big speakers for the time). ''Son, you'll soon grow out of this and develop a love for classical music, '' he assured me.
Sorry Dad, you were so wrong on that. 50 years later it still sends the blood coursing through my veins like I'm still 13.
    A classic album.

I can honestly say I have been trying to play this beat for the last 30 years and still cannot play it perfectly.

Bonzo is a legend and nobody has ever played the drums like him.

That would be the minority view, with no disrespect to him.

I believe they do, mate. You should watch some.
It's a fantastic source of humorous, and sometimes educating material.
    Give it a go.

    No, no you're welcome.

Dont often disagree with you Loop but we certainly are not on the same planet on the music front. The whole video crew including the singer should be shot for butchering such a classic. There is not one redeeming feature from singer guitarist or drummer that even approaches Led Zepelin classic. In short its a talentless souless piece of shite.
