Not if you have a smart tv and if you don't, get a Minix box. I'm sure you can find out everything about these on the net but they plug into your TV and run on WiFi or a cable from your router. Can put some photos of my set up here if you need them. And even a computer dummy (like me) can use it because you can buy them with all the programs and add-ons you need installed already.

I had it for 2 years @ 10 mbps speed. Wasn't the greatest but my requirements are really high. Ask about it. You can download gigabytes of movies when you are asleep leaving it running in the background. Your in the stone age with 3G.

Well for the bridging equipment you just need a friend or family member with a decent connection at their house and shoot it to your house.

They also have equipment for 13 kilometers @ 150 mbps but it'll still broadcast well past that - 20 kilometers - and you wouldn't even feel a difference as you will never use that much speed.

Anyway that probably falls into your too hard box. Wi-Max is good though.

I've got a Chromecast that I bought in the US but it does not work with my Aircard. I been over this with AIS and they are clueless.

Living in the sticks there are not tons of ways. Seems like a poor option having to replace a perfectly good TV just because it is not a 'smart' TV. And who wants cables running all around for people to trip on even if I had a router which I don't using an Aircard. If anybody knows where I can but a casting device in Thailand that will work with an Aircard please let me know. I have asked about it at Power Buy and they just scratch their heads.

    Air card being cellular data?

IF thats the case, give up streaming options. Never gonna work.

What are you trying to do with the chrome cast?

I have a Minix box also. Minix Neo X8. Android OS. They are about 4000 baht on lazada.

But none of this stuff for streaming is gonna work without a decent connection.

I mean exactly how far in the sticks are you? Have you exhausted all options?

Anyway if you watch stuff on your phone or laptop with your connection you have now, then at an Android Box would work, maybe.

You don't have to buy a new smart TV, infact Smart TVs are a ripoff. All an Android box does, basically, is turn any TV with HDMI ports into a Smart TV. About 10,000 times more functionality than a smart Tv.

The android boxes connect wirelessly to what ever source you have. No cables other than power and HDMI.

As you advised in another thread long ago I sure did. Visited the local ToT office and was told they would come out and check it out. After a month of no show I went out again and was told I was too far from a fiber conjection point but coming soon. I asked how soon. Not sure but soon. I then put the fiber solution in my too hard box.

The android box is basically a little computer that connects to your TV via HDMI cable. This is the model I have but bare. I set it up.

MINIX NEO X8-H Plus (Black) Free APP + Alkaline AAA + Minix NEO A2 Lite | Lazada.co.th

    There are cheaper options.

Think of the Android box in the link basically like a android smartphone connected to a TV. Anything you do on the smartphone will be shown on the TV.

Or think of it like connecting your notebook PC to your TV via HDMI and watching movies like that.

The program is called "kodi' and you can download it to your PC as well but the end of the day its gonna consume a lot of data.

Thats the exact keyboard I use.

Air mouse sucks for typing anything or searching. Or basically everything really.

Best movie & TV series add-on imo is "Exodus"

    I believe so. I'm a Luddite but...

You have to configure your notebook to be a wifi hotspot and the Mimix box will connect to your notebook by wifi.

Assuming your current TV has a HDMI socket you connect the Mimix to your TV

^I get what it's supposed to do but the devil is in the details.

I'm not sure I want to gamble on buying all this stuff only to stumble on some technical glitch that is beyond my ability. I'm a luddite as well when it comes to this stuff.

Maybe I'm better off just getting MP4 format torrents and putting them on a thumb drive.

So I called Truevisions this morning. They are starting a new package of movie and entertainment channels on Sunday. Same price as my existing package. If I opt out of the new channels I can get a 15% discount LOL. Or I can revert to a basic package for about half of what I am paying. I only watch the news and movies. All the other stuff is garbage anyway.

We've for fibre out here now, thru' 3BB- it might be advisable to check if they are in your area Norton. What an improvement over my old Ipstar connection- and less than half the price!

^Interesting that you brought 3BB up. I saw their trucks stringing cable along our main road a while ago. Called to see if service was available but they said not yet. Maybe in the future.

I think they will be buying from ToT - so you could well be able to get ToT with less congestion if 3BB goes the normal route and oversubscribes

Ok AO here's a few snaps so you and others who're not familiar with this can get the general gist. It just plugs into the back of your tv and needs power, as per Baldrick's diagram above. I run a cordless mouse as well, the wireless remote mine came with was useless. Maybe newer models are better though.

Home screen once it's booted up. As also mentioned, what it's basically doing is turning your tv into a mobile phone, a 70 inch mobile phone in this case!. But the bottom line is, if you can load apps on an Android phone and use them, using a Minix box is pretty much the same gig.

Watching the cricket today on the ilikehdtv app (more on this below). An excellent picture with no buffering on my 10 Mps wireless connection but this is a pay service.

Plenty of other sports channels on ilikehdtv as well, along with movies/news/etc. For streaming live tv this is my go-to app.

And this is Kodi which is 100% free. You can stream live tv from every corner of the globe thru the million or so add-ons available but I use it mainly to watch movies or series. You name any movie or series ever made, it will be in there somewhere.

I've seen a few guys on this forum also mention ilikehdtv and it's really good, I've had it for years. Lots of different packages but I pay about 450 Baht a month for the English Sports package that also has movies etc, something like 130 channels I think. You can just download it onto your home computer or Tablet or Android phone and try the local Thai channels out to see if your wifi is quick enough, the local content is free. And if you do like it, check the packages out and you can buy True Money cards from any 7/11 to purchase a package via the app.

    So right now at home I've got;
Local cable tv; Good for a few un-cut movie channels and local news, plus seeing what our very own Danny Boy is up to . Cost three fifths of fuck all, about 1800 baht a year I think...
True Vision Platinum; Good for hi-def sports events only (Boxing, UFC, Golf, Rugby, etc). Watching cut movies without swearing or tits is the shits, more so if you know the movie well!. Paid about 25,000 Baht from memory a few months back for another 12 month subscription and the girl at the True store should have snogged me after I paid up as it's suppose to polite to kiss someone after you've fucked them...
Ilikehdtv & Kodi; If I could only keep one of my 3 options for watching tv this would be it, no question.

The bottom line is True is a shit service that's a rip-off, but it has it's uses. The free (or moderately priced) options are better and there's guys on this forum who know what they're doing who could help out newbies I'm sure. I too would like to learn more about Kodi. Also, there's places and people who sell Minix boxes with all the programs loaded already, for sure people here will know where but there is a guy in Pattaya who does it for a living who's number I could pass on (if I can find it again)!.

I believe streaming tv is 100% the way of the future, why fuck about with expensive subscriptions and satellite dishes when almost everyone has quick/reliable internet these days?.

Thanks so much. Is that a Minox box or an android box? I will be getting one free play box with the package from AIS, but have 2 tv's so I guess I will have to buy one more box? A friend on here says he can get the AIS box to do ILike HDTV + Netflix and that is about what I would want. I hope you can understand this gibberish. I feel I must be more tech challenged than Humbert... lol

Good tip. I forgot about this. DL likehd on your device or laptop and give it a test. There are settings in ilikehdtv FYI that you can adjust the playback resolution as well. Its in the app itself.
