I recently watched Herzog's documentary 'My Best Fiend' which describes his strange, combative but intensely close relationship with the highly eccentric actor Klaus Kinski (who also plays the vampire in Herzog's Nosferatu: The Vampyre).

I have meaning to dig up Aguirre since then, which was one of their earliest collaborations.

Will make a point of doing this now.

^^ Thanks, Vocalneal. I just found Sea of sand on Youtube.

But don't bother looking for Ice Cold In Alex on Youtube. There are a lot of links, but they're all either short clips, or links to other sites where you pay for the movie.
Strangely, many of these have been uploaded in the last week. Was there some reason this movie became popular again recently ??

^Both are on Kickass and PB. Slow loaders, though; very few seeders.

    The Hidden (1987)

An alien parasite takes over human bodies, moving from one to another as the host degenerates... it's mission..? Sex, violence and rock 'n' roll.! Kyle MacLachlan is the investigator in hot pursuit. Still a great B movie after all these years. Possibly the inspiration for the x-files, but takes itself far less seriously.
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!"

    Identity (2003)

Even knowing the spoiler in the film I still enjoy watching this B movie with a good cast and a strong script. John Cusack and Ray Liotta star.

Stranded at a desolate Nevada motel during a nasty rain-storm, ten strangers become acquainted with each other when they realize that they're being killed off one by one.

    HARD TIMES :
    Bronson , Coburn , Leigh.
Bronson plays a drifting street fighter who falls under the wing of Coburn in the great depression.
Watched this movie dozens of times over the years .. Never fails to entertain.

Thanks all for the movie tips here. Working my way through them.

Second Hand Lions definitely has to be on this list although it barely makes it being a 2003 flick.

Hitlers S.S Portrait in Evil 1985.

OK fictional movie with historic overtones about the sides taken within Hitler's rise to power and WWII and choices that had to be made by individuals once they had taken sides. Little bits of love interest but...

Downloaded this only because two of my favorite actors star in it. I was pleasantly surprised. A feel good movie with some quite funny moments. Duvall shines, as always. Well worth watching.

Yeah, Second Hand Lions is probably my favorite movie of all time as it shows how life should be lived.

A few other good ones would be Thunderbolt and Lightfoot (Jeff Bridges and Clint Eastwood as crime buddies), as well as Apocalypse Now (war flick a bit too close to home and possibly disturbing to some). Back in the old days, we watched those two along with Repo Man as the ulitimate movie triad. All three are definitely worth seeing with the latter being a dissappointment after the first two.

That was a real gem. Directed by Sidney Lumet who did 'Dog Day Afternoon', 'Network' and 'Serpico' among many other great films.
Militarism, obedience, intimidation, homosexuality, racism but not much about war. A very different visual style than his later films.
    Quality stuff. Watched lastnight.

Caulostrophobic tense study of 5 British army soldiers on corrective punishment in a WWII (north African?) army camp - for anyone who hasn't seen it yet.

Ahead of its time in characterisation and cinematography.

(I did not understand why the Hill does not wear down quickly since it is made of sand and has punters climbing over it all day - but that is a small technicality!)

Amazing that someone persuaded Lumet to do "The Wiz" given his body of work.

In reviewing Christopher Lee's legacy, I realised I've never seen the original of The Wicker Man.

Probably because my old man wouldn't let me.

Lots of filth, naked Britt Ekland, some terrible accents, but still managed to be shitheaps better than that travesty that Nic Cage did.

Edward Woodward plays a policeman tasked with finding a missing girl on an island where heathens and pagans roam unfettered....

Oh are you going to have some fun then. Bless her, she wiggles it all over the place.

I think they dubbed her voice through the entire movie though. Not that it matters.

Never so Few. is an undistinguished war film

Staring, Frank Sinatra, Steve McQueen, Gina Lollobrigida etc.

Easy to watch but not a credible war film, nor a credible romance, nor a credible anything. More holes than a culinder. Just easy to watch.

A few funny moments such as when the doctor is doing a McCoy type "Damn, it Jim I'm a doctor" rant and then a few seconds later George Takie has a cameo role.

    Rubbish 4/10
