A great one and good series followed it to download as well.
TRoy,
What about the "new" 39 Steps? As a comparison?
The 39 Steps (2008 film)
^ I haven't seen the 2008 version but have seen the 1935, 1959 and 1978 versions. I tried to find it last time I was in England but failed. Thanks for reminding me as I am going back soon for a few days.
I did go and see the comedy play of the same name at The Criterion and thoroughly enjoyed it...as did the wife. Quite a clever spoof play with 4 actors playing all the roles.

The Robert Donat/Madeleine Carroll relationship was one that made the original version so good but I enjoyed the other versions as well. The 2008 version is supposed to be much closer to the book, which I have also read, so probably not really easy to compare in the same way the 1959 version can be compared to the original.
BTW, watched Quicksand (1950) the other day. I can think of several modern day remakes that would fit nicely into the..."No-one will know" slippery slope genre...

I did the torrent thing for the "new" one. I will have to watch the others and compare.
When i was for a brief time in Edmonton Alberta there was an independent cinema that often showed an old and new double bill. Sadly I watched the father of the bride. Spencer Tracy was good Steve Martin was rubbish.
Better to think inside the pub, than outside the box?
I apologize if any offence was caused. unless it was intended.

I'm interested in The More the Merrier, A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthurs' Court, and Mr Deeds Goes to Town 1936. I don't think I've seen any of these but they look interesting. I also heard The Egyptian is a good one.

I watched it last night and, although it was okay, it lacked the magic of the original. I spent most of the time picking up the blatant period inaccuracies, which I would normally ignore. Some good bits and Victoria reminded me of an old girlfriend but not enough good dialogue and the ending was a let-down. The part in the Inn is a turning point for the relationship in the original and holds a certain magic that is not apparent in this film...they may have been better off leaving that bit out. Pity really because Hannay and Victoria were a good match....Originally Posted by VocalNeal
