No point in sending the memory stick to the girlfriend to plug into her TV until I am happy it will work OK. Hence the testing on various towers and laptop here.

Just checked, properties.........VLC media file (.mp4)

    all videos the same.
Convert them to a different format and then transfer to your usb and see if they play off it. MPG format as that will play on your girlfriends TV.

Could be shit class 2 memory not fast enough to upload the video and the tv to process it.
Class 4 minimum is pushing video certain types won't play on that either.
Go out and by a class 10 bigC sell microSD 16 gig for about 550 baht Kingston brand I sure that will end your problems if not don't worry it's only a bit of cash.

I do not think so. I just loaded a HD video on a very very old usb drive and it plays on my computer. Try reformatting your usb drive to fat32 also try changing the files format. It is very strange I have never come across this problem before.

4 brand new sticks of 2 different makes..........no luck.

done more checking, although the problem files show up on the sticks, and seem to be of the correct size, gb wise, the player loads up on the screen, but says duration 0, that is, zero, seconds...........there ain't nothing there.

bottom line is, pc says memory stick has the video, player says its an empty shell.

Try a new player for starters. Try GOM player, I use it.

Is the USB slot that you are inserting the USB stick in wonky? Try using a different slot. Sounds like a file transfer problem to me.
