    iPod Classic battery replacement

I'm currently in Udon Thani & went to the local Apple guys at Central Plaza to ask about a new battery for my 5th Gen pod. They said they don't do repairs & suggested I check with the phone guys on the same floor there. I asked what they thought the cost should be & they said 3,000 baht.

Anyway I asked up there (only one shop) & they said it isn't/can't be done in Udon & suggested Khon Kaen or BKK. I could & should have bought one when I was back in NZ iPod 5G Video Battery with Tools for iPod Video | Trade Me

I'm not prepared to pay anywhere near 3,000 baht for a new one, but am doing a visa run to Laos soon. Does anyone know if it's worth checking in Vientiene?

    Cheers

I paid 800 baht all in to have a new original battery put in my iPhone.

    Works great now.

That was on the fourth floor of MBK in Bangkok

Maybe someone could send you one from Bangkok ?

I'm much happier with that price, may wait until I go to BKK then. Thanks for the info!

I was gonna say get it mailed to you by recorded delivery, but you will still have to open it up to fit it

the apple shop ( not the small stall outside asia books, but the one where they sell apple computers) in the emporium at phrom pong in bangkok are a friendly and helpful outfit if you are looking for genuine parts.

they replaced the input wheel thingy on my gen 5 i pod for 1500b, took 2 days.

^ Yes that would be the easy way, but I'm going to Laos in 6 days & thought that may be quicker

I'd prefer genuine parts, but it will depend on the price difference. If the gap is huge generic will do

ME SHOP specialises in trendy electronics, so it doesn’t sell TVs or toasters, but rather iphones, ipads, Playstations, Xboxes and more. It’s set up so that people can walk in and just hang out if they want to, and during my visit many were. Some customers played Playstation whilst others listened to ipods at special listening stations. There is a counter at the front staffed by the shop assistants who give free advice or accept broken devices for repair. ME SHOP is even licensed to repair Apple products.
Call +856 20 77709642 or +856 20 99229555 or email macinlao@me.com. For products and prices see the ME SHOP website (mainly Lao language for now).

    No Go in Vientiane

I was in Vientiane for my visa run 4th & 5th. Closest place to where I was staying was the iCenter @ True Coffee. They had a very limited amount of Apple products there & are mainly an internet cafe. Interestingly they run pc's not Mac's for the internet cafe side (their coffee was only passable - not that great IMO). They couldn't help & referred me to ME Shop.

At the ME Shop the guy wasn't much help at all. Maybe a shortcoming with his English but he just wanted to say "No". No replacement battery & no repairs & could/would not offer any helpful suggestions re a replacement battery.

For anyone looking for ME Shop, I didn't note the street name sorry. But if you go from iCenter @ True Coffee & walk along the one way street (on the pavement) with traffic coming towards you until you reach the intersection with the traffic lights & turn right there, the ME Shop is on your right a short distance from the intersection.

I am sure 711 is even closer, yet can you expect to find iPod battery replacement there ?

Yes, I did my visa run to Laos & currently have no plans to go to BKK. Also they have Apple/Mac agents there so it didn't seem unreasonable to expect to get a replacemant battery for a genuine iPod.

except the official apple shops do not perform that kind of "cheap" operations, if they do, they are in violations of their TOS with apple

MBK is the only place to go,
