I actually do normally put a splash of honey in the curry pot to juxtapose the sweetness against the sour tang of the vinegar

I was eating the first plate lastnight and thinking it was awesome when I had the nagging feeling I had forgotten something but I could not recall what it was so I carried on

Only when I read your interrogative did the forgotten penny drop

I dug the honey out to add some to tonight's serve

    Dinner-img_20221109_212645-jpg

But then at the last moment demurred and went honey-less again

Maybe I am outgrowing the sweet tooth of youth

Honey is OK for curry as it is adding notes to the flavour but should not be used in whiskies other than bottom shelf as it corrupts the complexities that are a key part of the whisky experience.

    Si senor.

One of the few things Colombia did well in food terms was Mexican food. I used to post the odd pic from our weekend taco fest on here too from this place.

Insurgentes - Taco Bar - Ricos tacos, cerveza fria y buen mezcal

    Muy rico.

Mexico City itself is food heaven. I've got a few pics on my phone that I've never posted here, but I'll tell you this for for free, la comida Mexicana es excelente.

(green owed Lu and I await happy NZ to correct my poor Spanish)

Chitts and Armstrong making complete tits of themselves. Mexican is a heavens delight if you go to the right spots and no Chitts burritos are not fried.

As far as Mexican food goes,Chimichanga is ok when three sheets to the wind.
The rest you need a Tequila worm down you to eat that unhealthy bland crap.

I am sure this is true with any cuisine. Some places will apply imagination, and quality to their food, ending up with a quality product.
But as far as the preponderance of Mexican food is concerned, my wife said it best when describing it.
This is a direct quote. She said "in the kitchen they have four pots, one with beans, one with rice, another with cheese, and another with chopped tomatoes."
Apparently people must like Mexican food on occasion, otherwise there would not be so many Mexican food restaurants.
I know I do!! Though I always order the same thing.
Chicken Fajitas. I get a plate with ...... wait for it ......
Refried beans, Rice, tomatoes and cheese , the meat of choice, and of course the ubiquitous flour tortillas., and save them the trouble of having to put it together LOL
But IMO they are great with a cold Corona and a slice of lime Cervesa
Here in Thailand I miss , and would even settle for bad Mexican food

Having lived in LA I used to go to Mexico quite frequently, mostly Ensenada and Rosarito. Never in my life did I encounter a fried taco or burrito. While I do not know the history of a Chimichanga, they must be something frozen and you fry them later.

As for Mexican food being overrated I disagree. But of course if you have only had Tacos and Burritos then I could see why you come to that conclusion. However go to restaurant in Mexico or even some really good ones in San Diego and LA and you would enjoy some outstanding food. Buying frozen Mexican food and microwaving it, is not eating Mexican food. It's processed crap.

Man I would love a nice bowl of Pozole soup and an iced cold Modelo.

The belly keeps the back up - deep fry that shit.

I can't find any battered burrittos or chimighangas on line, the Scotsicanos need to up their game.

    Joe-it-all. {noun}

A know-it-all simpo that today knows more about Mexican cuisine than a number of higher IQ foodies that have been eating and cooking it for decades, both inside and outside of Mexico.

I wanted to go back to the Denny's, IHOP, TOGO's Tacobell subject as Hal asked a few questions

Nowadays I wouldn't consider eating at any of them primarily because back 30 years ago these places sold higher quality fresh food products. Denny's used to offer nice cuts of steak along with other things. TOGO's made a "Real" roast beef sammy and Tacobell used to make pretty good steak taco's etc. Fast forward to now and they all sell poor quality, highly processed crap food driven at the low income families.

While we all joke and point fingers at each others countries America, like the UK, has a serious obesity problem with its population. While there are many contributing factors for the reason, one clearly is food quality, processing, preservatives and convenience. When I visit the states and connect with friends the crap that many eat blows me away. Coupled with that the HUGE portion sizes. As time has gone on, I have become pretty picky on what I eat and moreover the portion sizes. Yes I post a pic of a HUGE ribeye but I will eat that for a few days and make different dishes out of it. I also look for higher quality lean cuts of meats with no GMO hormones and usually only buy range fed meats. I never eat from "tins" and never really did in the US except for Tuna and the occasional Chili beans.

Its the world we live in now and why obesity, colon cancer, heart disease are huge issues.

Anyway back to the dinner thread.......

Tonight was a BBQ'd garlic herb seasoned skinless chicken breast with a side of Brown mushrooms imported from Australia.

Dinner as served. Mushrooms were lightly seasoned with a splash of olive oil.

I think I got ripped off, had to cook our own steaks tonight. Raw steak served on a piping hot lump of basalt. Kids thought it was great!
